How to clean up your cricket bat and save money.

I like to shoe goo over the scuff sheet as i feel it seals out any moisture better, but love your work!

I made it for my cricket club years ago for fund raising. This was what I wrote Bat Wax is raw Linseed Oil and melted Beeswax in a solid state that can used to maintain, nourish and waterproof your cricket bat’s willow. Using bat wax when the bat prevents over oiling your bat as only a small amount of oil is needed when maintaining a bat. Do not use bat wax as a substitute for Raw Linseed Oil when knocking in a bat for the first time. The bat wax applied by: Using your forefinger, scape amount of wax about the size of a pea on to the tip of your forefinger. The wax will melt as you rub the wax on to exposed areas of willow on your bat including the toe and shoulders. Avoid slickers, grip and toe guards. You will be surprised how little wax its needed to cover a regular bat. Stand the bat face up and let the wax set and seal the willow. The linseed oil in the wax will leech out of the wax and into the willow. After 1 -2 hours gently wipe the excess wax off the bat with a cloth or soft paper towel. The willow will be softer at this stage, so avoid scratching it with your fingernails or rough rags/towels The bat can be buffed at this stage for a polished finish.

No, the bat wax contains linseed oil. That’s enough.

I've been looking around and the dowel technique used on fixing your bats toe area hasn't been used on a shoulder repair, do you know of a reason a 3mm dowel wouldn't work on a shoulder?

I’d say it’s way too thin to provide any support. I found bamboo dowels on ebay. About 6 mm. If you dowel you need to be able to travel 2x the distance dowelled (and glued). The Dowel is just a support. Its the area you have glued and repaired that is doing most of the work. So if your thinking 3 mm dowell it would be far more effective to support the bond with fibre tape.

I just bought a 2nd hand brand new hitman. It's not oiled or knocked, but has a scuff sheet on it all ready. Should I have any issue just following your guide on how to remove scuff sheets because it doesnt have the oil allready? Regards.

2nd hand…brand new? You mean never used. Be careful removing scuff on dry willow. Heat gun on a low setting probably the best idea and then deal with the glue with turps and rags. Be careful with fumes and peal gently across the grains

Turpentine or ethanol is a solvent. It dissolves most nonpolar substances. It doesn't breakdown the glue. (Chemist here, hehehe) ☺️

I have never done it. It’s glued on so heat it up and cut cloth. Pull across face gently.
