In todays video I show you how to clean your airbrush between colors when spraying multiple colors in one session. I show it using two different paint types, acrylic and lacquer, and two different airbrushes. I go through this process several times a day, every day. Once you get this down It should take you about 2 minutes to clean out your airbrush and be ready for the next color.

Your system worked perfectly! I've been dreading color changes for years until I stumbled on this video. The key is the preparation that you recommend -- having everything you need set before your paint session. I also used your homebrew cleaner, which worked incredibly well. Thanks for this valuable contribution to the hobby!

I've never used hot water to wash acrylic. That's a good idea! I use Gaianotes' or Creos' tool cleaner. Most of the colors can be washed clearly except for Citadel or Alclad chrome. But it isn't a big issue to paint a deepper color. But to paint clear coat or white, I have to separate it.Especially beofre and after Urethane clear

I tell you something I have found out the hard way. When you spray a metallic color, you had better make damn sure your airbrush is thoroughly cleaned before proceeding to the next color. Vallejo metallics seem to be the worst offenders, but; they all are to a certain extent. I used to think that Badger cheapened out using those rubber tip caps, but; I think that is more by design. They are very effective for back washing. Always enjoy you content. I seem to pick up something every time I watch.

I prefer to use Xylene, toluene or buty acetate for laqcuers and enamels. For acrylic like vallejo and Tamiya I use ethyl acetate (nail polish remover) I see you use acetone but I dont think it is 100% because I think that is too strong. I know a guy who got his airbrush destroyed with 100% acetone, but his airbrush might have been without solvent resistent seals and materials.
@Gundumb_guy

You should be VERY careful about coming contact with most of those chemicals, especially xylene!! Very bad and can absorb through your skin very easily and can quickly cause xylene poisoning!!

i honestly dont recommend using acetone with cheap airbrushes just go with a shot of thinner and some slightly hot water because cheap brushes have terrible weak sealing rubbers that its not even a joke, in the past year ive ruined 4 airbrushes doing acetone washes they always dry out the rubber an they break appart.
@edak482
@edak482 2 жыл бұрын
No, you're right. Not for CHEAP airbrushes. The rubber seals can't take that. But on the plus side a complete new rubber seal-set cost less than 1 dollar/euro ! So for $4 + shipping you could have 4 airbrushes like new and do the cleaning differently.
@KnightMyst6422

@@edak482 no mean really ruined. it melted the interior gaskets as well not just the the tip gasket i actually got to keep one of them but since the other 3 where all 8 dollar airbrushes they had gaskets on the inside of the back tip and one of them had a knob underneath that had a gasket inside as well.

I also have a Badger 105 and a problem I've been having is friction in the trigger movement. I pull about halfway back, then it gets stiff. Pulling harder, the stiffness goes away, but then the rocker (behind the needle) stays in the back position until I nudge it forward, past the friction again. Everything is clean - I can't possibly clean it any further. I'm at a loss as to understand what is causing that friction. Do you have any thoughts on this?

I had originally got it to thin out enamel paints once I can get a spray booth( cardboard box doesn't cut it.) But this video got me to thinking about it being used for cleaning the airbrush. Tough call. It might come down to price. The Patriot is around $80 and the Procon is about $130. The Procon is of superior quality in my opinion but I like them both equally. The Patriot can spray anything, primers, metallics and 2K clears but it's a bit tougher to spray very fine. The Procon can spray everything well, I do have a bit of trouble with thicker paints and heavy metallics but not too bad. It does however let you get finer details. I'd say overall the Patriot might serve most purposes unless you want super fine details

I use lacquer thinner and acetone. I buy it by the gallon at my local Lowes or Home Depot stores. That will last you a very long time

Pull back super slow, it takes a bit but you'll get it. Put the cap on the cup or cover with a paper towel, that helps too

This was a real informative video. Hey i wanted to ask do you have any plastic model starter painting kits i wanted to start simple and was searching for a kit rather than buying supplies seperately and came across this acrysion paint set from mr. Hobby. Do you have any idea how they compare against aqueous paints and do you know about any other painting starter sets for models
@barbatosrex9473
@barbatosrex9473 2 жыл бұрын
Acrysion brushes good but I had troubles airbrushing it. You can also get a Testors stsrting set too. As far as cost, see what a starter set comes with and then compare it by putting similar paints, a brush and a few other supplies in a cart and see the difference in price. Sometimes for just $5 to $10 difference you could end up with better supplies

@@1996starter start with a kit. Pick out a kit. A HG is a good start. Then the manual will list paint colors recommend for the kit. Those colors will usually be useful for all kits. The paints listed in a Gundam manual are Mr Color. So just match the numbers. You can usually find Mr Color for $3. Then buy a Gundam Starter Kit on Amazon. Should be about $9 and it comes with everything else you'll need to start, nippers, files, hobby knife... And that should get you started. With a Gundam you wont need glue but be sure to get paint thinner.
