Chuck some bits of brick or crushed stone after the shift . We call them happy stones over this way it's the best sound on site. Because you know when you hear that sound it's the end if the day.

We clean our mixer every day using bricks and water then let it run for 10 minutes. I then empty the bricks and water out and give the mixer a quick rinse . I then add little bit of diesel in the mixer and wipe it down with a rag . The diesel keeps it nice and shiny and lubed up .btw I’ve been using the same mixer for 25 yrs.

Ballocks. I do the same but you always get accretion on the paddles.amd rim..

Few shovels of gravel or hardcore and bucket of water at end of shift let it mix about for five or ten min, keeps drum clean also keep a bucket of water beside mixer to keep shovels in when not using as it keeps shovels clean, when I ever get a bit of hard mortar stuck in drum I whack outside of drum with a rubber mallet while it's turning that way you knock mortar of inside of drum but you never actually dent drum👍
@Eldorado12534 жыл бұрын
To get it clean put half a dozen engineering brick halves in the drum with a bit of water after last mix and just let it run till your ready for home always works on mine hope this helps from the UK, good videos keep them coming
@chrisbow1776 Жыл бұрын
Even better than that is to fill the mixer with ballast, water and brick acid until the water is just about spilling out the drum, then let it spin for ages. Less noisy than brick, plus a lot more surface area with the smaller pebbles and grit sand.

The best way to clean a mixer is to not let it get caked like that, but even the most careful brickies etc end up with a shitted up mixer in time, I found the best way to clean and the easiest isto fill the mixer with ballast, water and brick acid until the water is just about spilling out the drum, then let it spin for ages. Less noisy than putting bricks in the drum, plus a lot more surface area with the smaller pebbles and grit sand.

@@hendosbricklaying2003 in Australia you may want to scrub the rim with a hard brush throughout the day, dont let it dry then it cant stick. In the uk its cooler so not as tough to keep clean. Labourers job though

If you do have to do this.......take the drum off first so not to scorch the gearbox seals. It's also good to take the drum off occasionally to grease the shaft. That way it won't sieze on.

Nice one Hendo, that was certainly an eye opener for me. I used own an electric mixer by Bell, when I used to do the landscaping. I would pour a bucket of water in with a shovel of ballast after use. Then I'd let it run for 10 to 15 mins whilst I packed up, and it would be clean as you like.

Heating up that mixer will just take the strength out of the metal and you definitely have ruined it.

We used to light fires in our mixer on a winter morning, waiting for materials, would definitely keep the mixer clean, and we had that mixer for a decade.
@davebrittain92162 жыл бұрын
@@steviezeee1904 If you knew about the properties of metal you would know that steel gets soft at around 350 degrees and around 626 degrees it looses half of it's strength. Typical camp fire burns at around 1000 degrees. A little example of the difference it makes. When I was a kid we used to use a burn barrel to burn our garbage. We could stand on that barrel and roll it under our feet like a old fashioned logger in the water. Once we burned garbage in it and it got hot enough to burn the paint off if you stood on it it would just bend and the open end would just turn oval from it being so weak.

😆😆😆 watch them eyebrows seen a guy do it with petrol and boomed back out in his face lol. Only thing with doing that it expands the drum so if drum has join it’s not great. Keep 1/4 bucket water in for few minutes once gear is poured out and that keeps all the loose of sides. Makes easier at the end of the day. If we’re a bran new mixer drum grease the inner and our daily before use helps all to keep cement of.
