How to clean your Fjallraven Kanken the RIGHT way + fix loose threads

I bought a used Kanken from a 3rd party site and clean it with Dawn dish soap and warm water and it worked so good! I didn’t put the whole bag under water but used a sponge.

Even just putting it in the warm water and all the dirt coming off, then the water getting brown made it satisfying. (I carried my mini sized kanken everywhere I went for the past 2+ years)

When you put the seating pad back, was is still the same and okay? I heard that people have trouble putting it back in, can't put it back, or can't put it back like how it used to be before.

Yes! Everything fits as it normally would and i've washed it several times now. I think the key is to dry it out under indirect sunlight, doing the contrary may result in shrinkage maybe (?)

The more you wash your Kanken the less waterproof it becomes, it is just how it is. But if you take proper care and wash it with a mild method like this one then the waterproof coating will last longer 😉

hey! so if i wash it with mild shampoo the color does not fade away? my kanken is so dirty, but for some reason i am scared to wash it.

I would recommend doing a patch test :) maybe on the bottom? It will fade away because that is normal when washing dyed fabric, just not as much if done like this and it will also preserve its shape. It also depends on the color of your Kanken, fading will be less noticeable on lighter colors.

The Nail Artist i’ve watched a ton of videos revolving how to clean a kanken, but i believe my mom accidently washed mine, or something else happened to make it appear discolored and “furry” on the outside. there is more of a fade in color and the material doesn’t seem as smooth as it did before. i’ve watched tons of videos to see if there’s anything similar but i haven’t seen one that’s as close to the fabric mine has as the one here. your kanken material looks similar to mine but i don’t know how to fix it. yours looks less extreme then mine, but i wanted to know if you have any tips to fixing fabric that seems ruined or discolored. the backpack was bought nearly a year and a half ago, yet it seems worn out after what seemed taking good care of it. any tips?

The Nail Artist yours is seen kind of on the front pocket, there’s little hairs peeking out and they are whiter than the material!

@@karinadelao5989 I see what you mean, not much you can do about it, unfortunately. Happened to mine on the front pocket trying to remove a stain before I discovered this method. I used a soap that was too harsh and scrubbed more than I should D:

Rub the dry fabric all over with a block of beeswax. Use a hairdryer on low to melt the wax in. Start on the underside to get the idea,then continue on the rest if needed.

Also if your not sure if your soap or brush is too harsh just test a patch on the bottom so if it gets damaged no one will see🥰

The more you wash it the less waterproof coating it will have, just clean it if it’s completely necessary

You can use dawn dish soap as well, that's a mild detergent as well. I would be careful on what shampoo is used

Really just when you see it’s getting really dirty, try to avoid putting it on the ground and such. The less you wash it and the longer you take care of it would ensure a longer lifespan and less color fading 😊

@@jasmines7716 Use Fjällräven Greenland wax. Rub it all over your Kånken and blow-dry to make the wax be absorbed into the fabric.
