How To Clean Your GE Dishwasher Filter

Good job of showing how to remove and clean the fine filter on your dishwasher. There is also another filter that should be removed and cleaned at the same time. It is the filter piece in which the fine filter rests and is locked into place. Once you have the fine filter out, just lift the other filter out and clean it also. Replace the two filters in reverse order and you'll be good until the next time!!!.

omg thank you so much for posting this. im 23 and in my own home for the first time in my life. i helped with lots of stuff at home before now but somehow i never knew that dishwashers even had filters! my dishwasher was getting the dishes less and less clean as time went on and sometimes we'd have to run it twice. today we went to run a load of dishes and the water from the last load was still standing in there, i was worried it was gonna be a big problem but its just a yucky filter that i need to empty. im super glad its not a big expensive problem, and im so grateful for people who post things like this online. i have to look up how to do something so often i dont know where i would be if the internet didnt exist.

Yes, try holding down the canceled button and it should drain it after the filter is unclogged

@@KathyMLifestyle I cleaned the filter and tried holding the cancel button but the excess water underneath the filter remained as is. So I emptied it manually as much as possible and ran a cleaning cycle with baking soda and vinegar. There still remains water in that area.

dishwasher filters are different not only machine to machine but different models of the same manufacturer. This one is easy, the filter is accessible without removing the spray arm. Many models require removing and replacing the spray arm.

how do you remove the post in the Ultra Fine Filter? Mine stinks really bad. My ultra fine filter and fine filter are completely clean, but when the GE dishwasher runs it stinks because that post has gunk in it.

You don't want to develop mold. Once the problem starts, you'll never get rid of it.

That’s only the micro filter. Those two grey things in the back release the “main” filter which is that big screen. It needs to be washed also.

How do you usually run this type of dishwasher as far as settings, I have one just like yours and I’m not sure if I have settings right and also how do you get rid of bad smell in this machine even if filter is clean, thx for video

I do “normal” cycle, heated dry and boost wash temp. I have found my detergent pods don’t fully melt and open on the one hour. 😒 when the guy installed my dishwasher he told me to use Lemi shine dish detergent booster to clean so that’s what I use.

Hi, I accidentally remove the round part next to the filter that says “DO NOT REMOVE”. After i put it back my dishwasher is not working anymore. I reset the control board but it turns off every time i press the start button to run the dishwasher. Any idea? Thanks

You hold the start button down for 3 seconds (or so) and it drains. 👍🏼

A cup gets out most, then Large turkey baster gets out the little bits left . Also the drain gets "bits" of junk but the turkey baster also gets in there, where nothing else fits.. A big turkey baster!

I just inherited my grandparent's house. I once asked my grandfather how he cleans his dishwasher... He said it doesn't need to be cleaned... I just pulled the filter out and it is covered in mold. I'm half tempted to throw it out.

You will never, ever need to clean your filter if you rinse all food particles off the dishes first. Seeing chunks of egg in the bottom of the unit is just downright gross and could have easily been avoided. SMH

As in a commercial I saw on TV..... If you pre-clean all your dishes, just what does a dishwasher do???

Pre rinsing dishes isn’t the best thing to do. Dishwasher detergent clings to food particles and breaks them down. If there is no food particles for the detergent to cling to it will break down the material that makes up your dishes. Making them crack and chip easier. What I recommend doing is scraping off loose food into a garbage disposal or a trash can. If you clean your filter monthly and just scrape off loose food, your dishes will be sparkling!

Not true. I am fastidious about scrubbing and rinsing my dishes...filter still picks up stuff.
