I sure do miss having enough time to watch all your videos! Glad to see this one. I am hoping to have a pond in my yard some day!

Your pond looks great Greg! Once you get some plants growing in there it is going to be amazing. Have a great Victoria Day weekend! 😀 Mike 🇨🇦

I just dug a pond yesterday, and was literally searching for this. Also in heavy clay.

I live not far from Lake Winnipeg. It's a huge lake that is very shallow. It is *never* clear. Still sustains a fishing industry, though.

polyester cotton with a filter will create crystal clear pond water fast.

Perhaps pelletized gypsum scattered on the high slope would pre-neutralize some of the clay in the runoff. The same rain that washes in the clay will wash in some compensating gypsum (presumably any existing pond gypsum will remain undisturbed at the bottom of the pond where it can't help with new clay running in at the surface).

I was thinking this. I'm going to try it.

I was also looking at the water level during the different days of video. I am interested what takes place later with plants included.

Most importantly, where does one buy gypsum in either form? Thanks!

A good garden center will have it .

Hi - this video was really useful for us - we are in the process of creating a wildlife pond. We plan on having about 100mm of subsoil, which is mainly clay lined the bottom of the pond (above a liner and double fleece lining). So we will have a lot more clay in our pond compared to yours. But would you still say gypsum would be an effective route to take?

As far as I know it's one of the preferred solutions. Worked good for me.

I appreciate the video and the thoughts, but I'm wondering where this "pond" of yours is because I have holes in my road that hold more water than this thing. 😂

It's 14' long by 6' wide and 6' deep. Your road must be a mess...

Greg, will u test the water 4 us. Not all plants like alkaline soil which the banks will become . Most missed like acidic soil. Also certains water bugs do not, nor do frogs. And not all fish r 'floaters' as u call them. Depends on what caused their death.
@maritimegardening4887 Жыл бұрын
Why do you think the water is alkaline? Gypsum is a neutral salt (pH is ~6.7) . Not sure what you're driving at. Also - all the rain is acid rain. Really not worried about it at all. I am 99% sure the fish are fine - Last weekend they were fine. I'll put some bread out this weekend to draw them into the shallows :)

bro the water isnt clear. Im all for a positive result but this seemed like a waste of money all you needed was a pump, a walmart trashcan, some filter floss and activated carbon and youd be good to go.

A dozen goldfish live there year-round, with no air pump - so it's a pond as far as they are concerned I guess :)
