The reversing camera on my 2013 S60, it flickers too, but it happens when it's hot outside, nor on cold/mild days. I wonder if it has to be due to the change of battery and I forgot to do the unplugging thingy like the video shows. I've read in other forums where this was happening to some people but I've never thought that unplugging the BMS switch, it resolved the issue. Good to know. Thank you.

@@VolvopediaGuy Thank you. I followed your procedure and the message went away for 2 days but it is back on. I measured the battery to check if the battery is indeed low. The voltage is 12.54V. If I turn on the engine, it goes up to 13.04V which is probably because the alternator is charging it. Do you think the voltage is indeed low or if I did not properly reset the battery sensor?

You actually need to reset the battery settings, it is charging your battery in a different way, as it should. Can overcharge it very easily.

Thank you I don't believe it, it's reset and back to normal. I followed the simple instructions after viewing the video... (2012 Volvo S60 T5 , US version) I spent a lot of time scouring the web without success for a remedy, as it was most annoying not having the radio when parked and engine off. I changed the battery a few months ago and thought it odd that I was getting "low battery- power saver mode". The old battery was losing charge so I would get the low battery sign regularly, more frequent on short trips. Some day I will get an award for being the slowest mechanic on the planet.

Have the electrical system checked by a qualified mechanic to make sure the electrical system is in good working condition. Good be the alternator not putting out the correct voltage to the battery. You may find yourself stranded.

you all do realise that all Volvos{as far as i am aware: Disclaimer haha}, and no doubt many other cars, that have an auto start/stop function also have a back-up battery? It is situated to the right{ in UK-not sure about LHD cars) of the main battery underneath the scuttle cowl. One must remove the entire cowl not just the main battery access cover to get to it. It is basically a back-up battery in the guise of a smaller capacity battery ie a motorcycle battery and i believe it is this that often fails and not the main battery. No matter what you do, as a 'fix', the 'Low Battery' dash warning will always reappear at some stage should this undetected auxilliary battery fault prove to be the culprit...often misdiagnosed, often overlooked

You may a real issue with your charging system. I recommend to purchase the Topdo battery /alternator tester. The 3.2 inline 6 is also notorious for having issue with pulleys and lose nuts. Bottom line, if you replaced the battery and this pops out, you are not getting right charge on your battery. You can also use a multimeter to measure the load with your car on. This issue unfortunately could be lot more complex than a simple reset.

For charging fautr it will give you different warning message. Red battery warning message. And car will die or multiple warning messages when battery become discharged

I have a 2013 ’drive’ with the same problem since I replaced the battery several years ago. Tomorrow I’ll try this remedy. There’s however another problem: after replacing the RF-ABS-sensor only the ’city safety’-warning does not disappear. Is there a kind of reset procedure known? All other warnings are gone after resetting the system.

Thank you for posting this information. I replaced OEM battery on our 2026 XC 60 with AGM battery. Once installed, I started the vehicle and put volt meter on battery leads to find out that vehicle was not charging battery with 12.1 volts and dropping. Resetting the battery monitoring sensor by unplugging it solved the issue. Is this one time deal or will the sensor have to be reset in future because I'm using non Vovlo AGM battery?

Yes sadly non one battery have to be reset more constantly that oem But if your car is a 6 cylinder sometimes the alternator driven gear will get loose and will not charge battery, (not the alternator pulley the one is infrint of it

I’m not familiar of what u r saying. Here we don’t do smog test. It’s something on their side maybe. When unplugging a battery most modules should reset. But ok newer models with start stop will affect system Start soo won’t work until you reset battery monitor sensor. Or battery counters

So what happens if the battery isn't maybe in the best condition anymore but you reset it? Will it still give an actual warning that the battery is low when it REALLY is low, or will it just drain without a warning? I bought a second hand xc70 and they replaced the battery, but i just don't know when. I regulary get this message after just having the car on without the engine running. Even just some minutes is enough to get the message, but the battery never really went that low that i couldn't start the car. Would resetting be wise?

The reset is for the battery monitor sensor to recalibrate and from there sensor can tell you if battery is getting low

Reset performed after battery replacement 2014 S60 D3 and the momentary fuel consumption show 0 litre per hour at idle and it shows always 0.6 less than the normal value.

Then after a month of having the new battery and my battery is dead and it is actively being drained. I did this reset and no longer see the message but my battery is still dead. Electronics are also very complex same as batteries. It’s like a phone we reset them because it glitches . Same with bms sensor by reset it it will refresh and take a better reading of battery. I have test batteries with battery tester when car comes into the shop and test 90-100% good and charged and next week car came in with a battery shorted . And that’s without resetting bms sensor. Each car we test Battery , qpart of 20 point inspection

Hello. May I ask a problem that may be related to this issue. So there were about 2.5 weeks I did not drive my XC70 and the battery(replaced 1yr before at 4S) was drained, I jumped started and the driving was good. However after several times driving, 1 drive/week due to stay at home order, I found some issue with the car. When I drive in low speed, like trying to get in a parking spot, after 20-30 mins normal driving, the car's light is flashing from dim to bright, and steering wheel suddenly locked, but resumes to work after around 2-5 seconds. The problem is pretty random, and may not show up after each time driving. But there was a time that the car completely shutdown itself when I was in reverse gear trying to get in parking spot. I started the car again after 1 mins, and car resumed to normal. So I did some simple diagnose with multi meter to my battery and alternator and found out alternator is charging battery with right voltage 14.4V, and battery voltage seems good is about 12.2V after it parked for 1.5 week. The car dashboard shows up low battery voltage warning, even when actual battery voltage is around 12.5V tested with multimeter and with surface charge drained. So do you think my car's problem could be related to the messed up battery sensor? Or can I try to reset the computer of the car, is it harmful doing this whole car resetting? Thank you very much! Su Lu i think your problem is in the reed pulley that comes loose if your car is a 3.2 or 3.0L Whrn ever yoy see warbing message check if alternator pulley is turning. Alternatir is under inrake manigold but you can see pulley from too

Su Lu It When the car is acting up you should check alternator. See battery voltage too and that way you should know if it’s charging or not

I have a V60 D5 2011, I have the battery warning come on frequently but not all the time. Could this affect my keyless door entry, all the doors apart from the boot will not lock or unlock by touching the handles, I have to use the keyfob . I was just about to replace the battery hoping this would cure the problem with the keyless door entry the saw this video. Before I replace the battery which about as old as the car do you think clearing the battery warning or replacing the battery will solve the problem with the keyless door handles ? Many thanks 👍🏻

Nick R each door handles have an antenna that communicates with car . The problem might be on the handles or kvm (keyless vehicle module) Disconnect negative cable from battery and touch positive cable for about 10 seconds (don’t remove positive from battery) that way you can reset computer in the vehicle . See if it can help

Volvopedia Guy P.S... when this started happening the drivers door handle went first but I could use the back passenger door to lock unlock, then back passenger door stopped working then sometimes the other side of the car worked very intermittently. Now none worked.

Nick R Yeah disconnect the negative cable and touch the positive but I think it’s going to be your doorhandle and tennis by the description you gave me door handle connection sometimes they got wet and they create corrosion between the connections

I’ll change the battery anyway as it’s a pain when listening to the radio with ignition off radio shuts down after 5 minutes. Maybe new battery will at least solve that. Thanks

The low battery problem caused by Volvo smart charging- at low distance driving throw city with traffic jams the battery are disgarging day by day. Take out BMS at system will turn Standart charging without "smart". The battery will work good.

Do you know if there's a way to change the maintenance interval from 7500 to 10k miles? I switched to synthetic oil and only needs to change it every 10k miles instead of 7500 miles now. I see that volvo s80 2013 starts using synthetic but 2012 is on regular oil.

Alex someone’s support battery will say 12,6 volts but will not have amps (juice) not charging othe rines will read 6volts do a battery test based on cold crancking amps. 170 Hour amp Start stop will work if electrical system is working ok and if all trouble codes are cleared

Volvopedia Guy I found this battery it’s next to the main battery under the plastic trim and I tested the voltage and it reads 12.8 same as the main battery at 12.8. I can’t get a battery test done just yet but while I was checking the voltage I found the main battery terminals were not tightened up fully so i think that was causing my low battery message and the start stop did work once but the car restarted on its own. I also did your trick to reset the BMS too. I’ll see how it goes the the next month or so but I’m not so worried about the start stop working, just the low battery message but I believe I’ve cleared it fingers crossed 🤞 thanks for your help

Albert all wheel drive is fun to druve but expensive to repair. If you want a kore convenient car I recommend without all wheel drive.

Albert I highly recommend a 2011 Volvo XC70. Extremely reliable! Back in 2012 I had a frontal passenger accident which caused 20k in damages. To this day, I still have the car! It has 230,000km’s and it runs great! No issues at all. The AWD is holding up very well as well!

That sensor will help you to prevent battery drain. Like when you listen to the radio with the engine off. If the car read low voltage the radio and all internal lights will turn off.

Yes . Cable has a small tab that cover the fuse . Remove little cover (light pink color or faded orange. What i do is . I use a little torch that i uave and heat up center where the soldering is shown . Add a little more soldering and get it hot so the new soldering will encrust.

No-no, didn't try it yet. Was looking up on utube trying to relieve the stress, subscribed to you. I will not even lift up a hood by myself, I am 5feet tall. Will ask someone at work tomorrow, will watch out, will let you know--will get back to you with outcome. Stressful. Mine is Swedish made, btw. TY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@@VolvopediaGuy No worries :) Thanks for the prompt response. I have tried this method on my 2011 XC60 T6 and still the low power mode comes on when I run the radio with the engine off after 2 minutes. The battery voltage is 12.6 so I still don't know what the issue is. You can leave the headlights on for a day and the engine turns right over but if you try to run the radio for 2 minutes it goes into low power mode, something wrong with that circuit and/or the software for sure.

John LaGreca did you unplugged the battery sensor with car running? It suppose to be with car running . Is your vehicle equipped with sensor?

Let a mechanic check the electrical system. Clean tighten cables check water if not a sealed battery. Could be alternator not charging the battery. This is what sucks about having a digital computers checking everything. Some you can’t check your oil or transmission fluid it’s done by computer. If that screws up you could lose the engine or transmission. Hey but what do the engineers and companies care if you need to purchase a new engine or tranny. It’s sales isn’t it?

I wonder how many people have replaced the battery 🔋 when it didn’t need it , I only use my XC60 twice a week now and have to charge it every month A word of warning do not leave your car at the airport for two weeks as you will have a flat battery Poor show Volvo for making cars that you cannot park up for two weeks My next car will not be a Volvo

So many new cars will have the same problem after a couple of years for the same reason as your Volvo, FYI. I have to park my other car for long periods too and know your pain. Some people I know use solar panel chargers or battery disconnect switches as a solution.

MoV Fanclad yes volvo also have hybrids in the USA since 2016 or 2017 And yes volvo has a new plant in China. And in USA . When I prepare new cars I see that the come from Sweden USA and China . Check the vin number if it’s start with *Y* is from seeeden *L* China and 7 I think is USA

You have to do a relearn procedure for the batteries so the car would basically start from scratch on testing the actual load capacity of the batteries. 1 - Ignition ON (engine off) 2 - dipped front lights ON (turn light switch to far right) 3 - Rear fog lights press 6x (3 on/off cycles) (button to left of light switch) 4 - Hazzard lights press 3x - Battery icon blinks 3x

Hi please help me,i am driving an XC60 T6 2010 model,it displays the charging failure service urgent warning on dashboard. It can just lose power. I have replaced the car battery but problem still persists. My local auto electrician diagnosed it but it showed no faults in relation to that,i.e altenator. He said it was a wiring issue,. Chevy alternator if is spinning. If not. The gear pulley where the little belt is attached to alternator pulley is loose .

Hi This procedure you mention here is different than the reset with vida? Because I have the same problem with my car. Sometimes I get the “low battery” mesaage instantly after I stop the engine (after driving a lot), other times after I unlock it and the message is allready in the display. MY battery is an OE one replaced in june last year and bsm has been reseted with dice allready twice because of this annoying thing. Will also try your method. Thanks!
