Truth: I didn't write any of Microsoft's OS code. But I have written other OS code. That means very little because only current, specific knowledge is helpful when it comes to details like those being discussed here. RAM CACHE is a part of RAM MEMORY, if you clear it out that releases that part of RAM and you can see you have more Available RAM. Does that help your performance? NO! Empty RAM has nothing in it and until it does, it may as well have cockroaches in it. What you have done is clean out an area of memory that the authors of Windows thought was important to be have certain stuff in it. Did you hurt anything? Help anything? I DON"T KNOW, but I suspect you did nothing of consequence. You have substituted your knowledge for the knowledge those who wrote Windows. You look at the increase in Free RAM and assume things will be faster. What actually happens is Windows assumes control of the RAM CACHE and does exactly what it would have done if you closed your browser and other unimportant apps and started your game. Windows will decide what to put in RAM CACHE and do what it does. You could have RESTARTED and run your Game (or whatever) quicker without fiddling around and accomplishing nothing. Windows never relinquishes its control of RAM CACHE. Do what you want, a millisecond later the OS redo it.

Setting up a task scheduled cleanup action for cached memory is unnecessary, you are assuming windows memory manager is completely broken for your installation. Just another nonsensical 'windows hack' for gullible people who don't know what's really going on. This is low priority memory allocation that will be freed or paged when space is needed. Further more actions like that don't improve your performance, they sap the performance when cleanup happens and while cache needs to be rebuilt, your net gain from doing this is negative.

I would only use this if running a memory intensive business application that is running for an extended period of time, and requires a lot of ram.

@@Darkknight9035 Starts swapping to hard drive and things slow down. An SQL database fully loaded into server ram, or cloud data, don't want the hundreds of users waiting for SSD searches. Or large 3D model datasets to make many calls to and from the drive, even if it's an SSD.
