Learning how to climb up and over trail obstacles is an important skill on any mountain bike. In this video, trials bike legend Chris Akrigg shows EMBN presenter and long time downhill rider Steve Jones a technique that can help uses body weight and timing to help get up rock steps. Chris explains that good timing and technique can really help make light work of the situation and is much better than using excessive amounts of energy to bunny hop or speed to smash up the obstacle, which could result in damage to the bike.

Need to wear a full-face helmet when practicing these to be true role-models. Novices will try to copy w/o and lose their mouth/jaw area.

Hi. when I have no much speed, I do it by using the front brake. I pre -load, I press the Front Brake and I lock the wheel then I pedal and I leave the front brake. The Front wheel "explodes" high and I can pass the obstacles. Is it wrong? Cheers

Hi EMBN team, having such an opportunity to be taught by Chris could be more effective if you guys describe the complete exercise broken into its consecutive parts, with emphasis on the rider's proper body movement

I'll never be able to do this...What will happen is what always happens when I try. The front or the rear wheel will come to an abrupt halt and I will be bleeding all over myself and lying in a cactus patch.

Gawd. Ive been riding singletrack on motorcycles for many years, and a step like this is nothing. On my E bike? It would take some doing, and working up from a small step. But I get the idea of what to do from this video.

Isn't it more important to have the right preload and rebound setting than having the exact right gear i would think you can do this in second third fourth or fifth gear without huge difference specially if you have the acceleration and shuttle settings right,, on levo i would use hundred percent acceleration and 25-40 percent shuttle.. and bouncy rebound like what you do the best bunny jump's whit

You don't need to adjust your suspension for this. It's the technique that is key. People do these moves on fully rigid bikes just fine.
@HeathenRides
@HeathenRides 3 жыл бұрын
@@stevowyeth it's better with a hardtail than a air spring damper will low pressure and slow rebound..when my levo was new and I was bicycling it home from the store I was doing bunny jump's up some tall curbs from the road and the back wheel came so slowly up from the ground that it hit the corner of the curb and bounced again after I noticed that i adjusted the rebound to approximately the same setting when I wanted to do it again.. later a neighbor i used to bicycle with wanted to learn bunny jumps and I noticed that even he did very good he never got over the obstacles but crashed he's backwheel into them i thougt first that he's timing was just late,then I tried he's bike and I could just feel that it needed to be adjusted after I turned it 7clicks it became close to perfect and he always cleared the obstacles after that.. later he he went to the store and got more air in and he's bunny hops became really good and higher than mine even i thougt him how to, but also it's ligther because it's not electric

@@HeathenRides if you're relying on your suspension to bunny hop you are also doing it wrong.
@HeathenRides
@HeathenRides 3 жыл бұрын
@@stevowyeth I used to ride BMX before I bought the levo those have no suspension, suspension doesn't make it easier it's not a trampoline it suspense damping all motions putting in sufficient air and stiffen the rebound males it move less not more,, you seem to get this backwards
@stevowyeth
@stevowyeth 3 жыл бұрын
@@HeathenRides I'm fully aware of how suspension works and my first point still stands. This is a technique, you don't need to adjust your suspension to do it. If you feel you need to, you're doing it wrong.

I wish I could switch my levo in that gt ,, very nice bike ,i like coil spring dampers in that up\down position instead of horizontal position and I'm so fed up with brose motors,, brose attempts of EMTB motors is just a sad story for us consumer's.. I'm losing huge money for each day it's broken
