Swood here, good game Dylighted & Drew. Was a very tough board in general as 1st and you guys benefiting from 2nd/3rds placements then rightfully targeting me did no favours. Great job of taking advantage of the table and fueling the fight between green and I then benefiting from it
@dandydrew Жыл бұрын
Swood! Yeah, tough position for you with how everything got placed. No one should ever be mistaken... Swood is a savage and Canadian national finalist. It was our game to lose though with that setup. Keep crushing it and see you next time.

This is the perfect catan video to show beginners-ideal placements, classic win conditions. Every good catan player goes into their game hoping for it to pan out like this. Brilliant stuff

Great point Evan. These are the games/positions that good players have to capitalize on. Intuitively, Dylan and I knew we had a 70%+ chance of winning that position with optimal play.

at around 7:48 you block the 4 ore, I'd like to block the 3sheep since it's already clear we're targeting blue and don't want green to block us without holding knights ourselves
@dandydrew Жыл бұрын
The issue with the 3 sheep block is that there is already enough sheep on this board to justify not soloing the 3 since the other 3 and 9 are open… Better to shut down the ore which has a similar effect of stopping the development cards and cities of blue and green.
@kozokosa9289 Жыл бұрын
@@dandydrew I wasn't arguing that the 3 sheep should be a block of resource prevention, rather a block to maintain public image and to direct the heat away in case of opposing knights

I think what he’s saying is that sets you up for an ore/wheat/sheep game, but red’s OWS setup is so much better that you aren’t going to win that fight as black. At that point you’d rather try for road. Don’t know why Grumpy Car had to be so grumpy about it. Anyway, I don’t think that’s the real reason. Sometimes the best bet is to take second beat OWS and hope that trades, rolls, and dev card pulls are on your side. The real reason has to do with being cut off. If black places on the 8/10 and points up, the only settlement spot is the 11/5/desert, which you’ve identified. But that spot gets blocked by the 6/5/11 settle which is virtually guaranteed to get taken because both blue and green are lined up for wood port. Even if by some miracle the 6/5/11 isn’t taken, you’re still in a race with whoever takes the 9/11/4.
@thistamndypo Жыл бұрын
11:00 how did he bone blue? Why not yop for brick and double road to the 8/10?
@ianwhite1103 Жыл бұрын
By trading green the cards needed to settle on the wood port, he forces blue's hand to settle on the port before green's next turn. And since blue doesn't have the cards to settle on his own, blue gets stuck making an expensive trade to get the cards to settle. Because both green and blue are racing for the same port, they both get stuck into making non-advantageous trades to stay ahead of each other while Red profits (on top of creating a bit of bad blood between the two lol).
@fitodibene167 Жыл бұрын
why did he not discard on the first seven he rolled?
@jacksonletts3724 Жыл бұрын
He had exactly seven cards, and you need more than seven to discard. It just looks like he has more than seven at first glance since since all 5 resources are represented.

Blue threw so hard with the block/rob of black and the 4 for 1 trade
@webpg87 Жыл бұрын
Blue here. Red is crushing but we are playing a 4p game. If I am losing that spot to green then my game is dead. The rob on black is questionable I agree. But when I had to pick between 4:1 trade to settle or drop a road (since green has road settle in hand) the road is pretty inefficient and spending brick I’ll have to 4:1 for next turn. I need to do what I can to settle. And then try and get the table back on track to stop red
