I’m learning to groom my toy poodle. She’s too stressed now to take to a groomer. So I’ve taken up the challenge. Your videos have been a godsend because I just didn’t know where to start. I’ve groomed her back, flanks and withers after I watched you. Phew I was tired. Tomorrow I’m following this video to do her bits. Thank you so so much. This is by far the best for educational purposes.

Great video. Could you clear something up? You said you used 13mm #3F on body but 13mm comb on ears. Is there a reason one shouldn’t use the blade on the ears? I ask because I have a 3F blade but no combs, and I want to know if it is ok.
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials24 күн бұрын
Yes, you can use any length on the ears. I used a 13mm comb because i cut the length of her head longer and her legs and tail are longer, so this balances out the trim. If I did a shorter length on her ears, I would do the same length on her tail as well, as this can help balance the hair cut.

Thanks, but Sorry. Still confused. Maybe I’m slow. What I don’t get is: If the 3F blade you used on the body is 13mm and the comb you used on the ears is 13mm, why would one result in longer or shorter length?
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials24 күн бұрын
The 3f is slightly shorter. I would say the 3f leaves the hair slightly shorter as the blade cuts cleaner and attachment comb leaves the coat slightly longer as the comb has to glide through the coat and the blade used with the snap on attach ment comb has to work harder and you have to go over the area you are clipping a few times to get the hair even. I know this can be confusing💗

@@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials oh I see. Now I get it. You explained well. So can I assume that I could achieve something similar with a 3F blade on head, tail and legs, and the slightly shorter 4F on the body?
@MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials24 күн бұрын
@@souldreamer9056 yes, but it will take it slighty shorter, I would lightly skim over it and then scissor over to keep a bit of length on. Yes the 4f will cut shorter than the 3f💗

I want to learn how to groom my poodle. Watched the other video where you used the 3F for her body and really liked it. Started watching this video and you use a snap-on comb on 13mm instead of the 3F (also 13mm). And now I'm wondering why not also use the 3F for the head? Or the other way around, why not use the snap-on comb on the body?

Great question. And I am so happy you want to groom your own poodle. I find a 3f takes the coat slightly shorter, than the 1/2”. And also depending on the coat type, a snap on works better on a drop coated and wire coated breeds than a 3f. When clipping with the snap on attachment comb I find it helps pick the hair up with the comb when clipping. For me it’s easier when clipping a curly poodle coat, to use a 3f on the body and a snap on attachments comb on the head as it’s will leave the head slightly long and then you can shape and scissor the head in softly. I hope this helps.✂️🐩💗
