Thanks for this reminder about cloning tomatoes. I have a volunteer tomato growing in my garden now, but with our high humidity here in Hawaii it is starting to get a lot of blight. I have other tomato seedlings, but had not started one of this variety. Now I can clone it and have one ready to plant when I need to pull the original one out. Hopefully I can keep harvesting tomatoes for much longer by staggering when they are planted in the garden and always having another transplant ready to go.

Sooo, everytime I actually talk to a fellow gardener and mention this method they look at me crazy. And "say that wouldn't work. They'd rot. You can't grow a producing plant off of a sunleaf" (which I can't remember whether or not she mentioned). Which made sense after it was explained, due to my rant about none of my cuttings sprouting roots and kickin the bucket; fishing for advice. Felt so dumb. What a way to introducing yourself to the gardening people. Eh 😂, got to be willing to try and fail to Grow!💋

Really, I think you can do more, nature does not hail to man. I'm treating hydroponic determinates like indeterminates. They decided to get too tall so they're lollipopped, accidentally topped but spitting out tomatoes. They sprouted crazy suckers so fruit galore. I fly by the seeds of my plants, they decide whatever and I just give them what they want.
@lindaely76115 жыл бұрын
I actually did this with my seedlings when I had to thin them out, put the "cutting" into soil, keeping it moist and they did great. If you are trying this I highly recommend cutting right below where you just trimmed off extra leaves. Where the leaves are, are called nodes. I’ve done this with success. I did have a cutting just yesterday that really wilted. I took it out of the water, made a fresh cut on a 45 degree angle and placed it back in the water. After a few hours it fully recovered. And Yes it was from a neighbor’s plant. I’m in Eastern PA and we are nearing the end of our season. My plan is to grow these hydroponically in my basement over the next 6 months. I’d like to hear from anyone who successfully transferred the cuttings after they’ve rooted into a Kratky or DWC Hydroponic environment. Thanks Dave in PA.

I got a cutting that I took in June, it is 7 inches shy from six feet tall now. I had to move it from under the grow light to the window. I have it hydro and I just threw some (I know it’s the company we all are like 😬) miracle grow flower feed (made four of top ten cannabis feeds in 2020, so who am I to argue) on her and she has a ton of tomatoes. One is nearly ripe right now as I type this good luck to you. You need tall ceilings or ways to bend her, luckily I got tall ceilings.
