What you explained in the first 30 seconds of this video is exactly what GOOD teachers do. I teach physics, and I am constantly having to re-evaluate how I get information across based on how I see the kids repeating it. I know how to do it, and you know how to coat screws, but that means nothing if you can't get the information across in such a way that someone else is able to perfectly replicate what you do. You, sir, are a good teacher. Nice job.

Love your explanations on why rather just "how" you do it. Understanding the theory allows one to master the technique.

Umm.. I like ice cream.. as a interior painter essentially having to teach myself like with rolling ceilings in 1 coat to teaching myself how to do blended wall repairs and using the sanding block to tell when I’m good, still using the touch and feel sometimes to now being a commercial painter in 3 years.. I can say that I’m thankful I found your videos about 2 years ago because you’ve shown me techniques that have only made me better at my craft to where I can confidently teach these to newcomers right out of the gate without being cocky or arrogant about it and yes, I do give you credit lol.. So thank you Ben for making these videos..

Gday from a plasterer Down Under… I quite like your technique. Seems to work well. Here, we tend to slap the mud on in one direction and then smooth it off at 90degrees. Same amount of effort and same results. Mostly. 😁

Ben - I really appreciate all of your tips and videos. You have taken one of my least favorite parts of DIY projects and turned it into a very rewarding process. I still have a lot of practice to be proficient, but I am no longer perpetually frustrated and I can see improvements at each step. I am closing in on the last few days of drywall work in our kitchen remodel and am thrilled with how things are turning out. THANK YOU for all you have shared with the ‘tube community!

Your videos over the years have given me the experience to work on some very expensive homes for banks and created a lot of work. But since over a year ago I can not perform what I love to do the most and that is make people happy with the work I performed. I am currently stuck working on my newly renovated bathroom as my surgeries are back to back. Love the videos and your content.

Great video. Funny you mentioned "the stripe". When I first started learning the taping part of the job the only way to spot screws was to do the stripe. If we didn't hit 3 screws minimum each strike we got an earfull from the boss. Ended getting good enough I could do the total of my height (6ft tall) worth of screws on stand ups (not every time but with some effort). Granted I'm awful with skim coats but can run boxes okay. There is always more to learn.

Thanks a ton for the clarification! Just like your kids, I was doing the screw holes all wrong and having to spend way too much time, and even though I've been following your "fill one way wipe the other advice" as best I could, I was still getting a ton of those bubbles. I don't think I have any more screw holes to fill on my current project though. :( Oh well, good to know for next time, I still have plenty of drywall left to put up.

Enjoying your channel. Happened across it while doing a shower project. Installing a corner acrylic round shower. Built a ceiling bulkhead to match the round corner shower. I now need to face the curved bulk head with drywall, which will be about 4 inches in height and total about 6 feet long. Any tips on drywalling an outside curve? I understand an inside curve where the back of the drywall is cut with slits. I’ve also been researching 1/4 inch drywall, but it doesn’t come in green board? Maybe an idea for a topic for you….and me. Lol👍👍😀

I use to use a 5 then 8 then 10 . The walls would be sunk in sometimes and the sander machine wouldn't hit it good enough with just the 5 or 6 . Or they would have to go over it so much that it would fuzz up the paper due to the walls being sunk in in places.

Do you guys don't use glue in the middle of the sheets? In NZ you only screw fix the perimeter and glue the inside. It eliminates all those screws in the middle. Even in the bracing sheets for seismic and wind you only fix the perimeter (closer centres)
@mjjackaroos1122 жыл бұрын
Codes differ everywhere, just saying
@Albertouy2 жыл бұрын
@@mjjackaroos112 I understand that but I can't see what your code is from one video so I was wondering if there was an alternative solution. NZ has pretty onerous code requirements due to seismic events so I am used to see less stringent conditions in North America. You'd think there is lot of benefit in getting away from using screws in the middle of the sheet both fixing and stopping plasterboard.
@mjjackaroos1122 жыл бұрын

@splanzza3 жыл бұрын
Most probably you did not sink the screws enough into the drywall. There is a very fine line between too much and not enough sinking. Might want to look for a drill bit attachment for drywall screws that sinks them perfectly leaving tinny indent for perfect mudding. Also screws have to go in at almost exact 90 degrees.

doesn't matter. but depending how you tape, the mud can be real loose which isn't ideal for filling screws. but in total you should have 3 coats on your screws, which will cover no matter what method you do
