Awesome thanks yall! I’ve been making wooden mugs and putting high end wood finishes that take months before they really cure and are safe. Beeswax is so much better!

Is it hot coffee proof ? Is the beeswax won't melt in the hot drinks?

Thanks 👍 very much I've seen a lot of people saying mix mineral oil or olive oil with the wax ,but it's not food safe , thanks for clearing that up that it can be done with just bees wax .I just got into home brewing and distilling im making a couple of wooden stoppers for some old bottles I have found ,I was going to just dip them in melted wax and then give them a buff with a hot wet rag until they came out okay .I might use my wax to seal bottles for long term storage experimenting too......, but yes thank you I didn't want to have to spend money on anything made in China to do the job and I kept seeing videos giving me the feeling it wouldn't work without adding something making it un food safe or having too buy silicone things

PS you look like a man who might know ,any tree that has acorns is a oak isn't it ? And is there a easy way of telling American white oak from French oak or whatever ( I just posted short video of question few days ago) And you wouldn't know can ornamental maple produce syrup of be used for ageing alcohol like normal or common maple

You can heat mineral oil and mix it with bees wax, and my understanding is that that is also food safe. Honestly, I don't know about wooden bottle stoppers. My concern would be the grain swelling up and breaking the top off your bottle. It's not exactly my area though. Good luck!

I don't think this beeswax would work with hot tea, which is what I wanna use my wooden cup. I just got for. I would actually brew it inside the wooden cup. I was thinking of using the oil I used for my cutting board in good condition

How would you clean the inside of it out so as not to remove the wax?

Great video, I'd suggest trying a thin liner out of clay on the inside.

Is this suitable as a coffee cup as well, and is there a way to seal so it would be if it's not? Thanks, and nice work guys:>)

I'm trying to find a way to make a non-toxic hydroponic garden. I think my plan is to build long planters out of untreated wood, then coat the inside with beeswax to seal them. From your experience with sealing wood with beeswax, how long do you think it would remain waterproof with a constant slow-flowing stream of water running through it? Would it last through a whole growing season, so I could just re-seal once per year, or do you think I'd have to seal more often than that because of the constant contact with water?

I think it would depend on what sort of wood you used. If you built it from reasonable think cedar beeswax would probably be fine. But honestly, a whole growing season of moving water -- I suspect the water will find a way in. That's why I suggest the cedar -- it can handle water.

I really liked your video. Do you think it would be helpful to first soak inside with mineral oil then let dry and then apply beeswax? Thanks again for video

Then it wouldn't be food safe from what I gather from other videos on KZbin

@@kiwiprouddavids724 Mineral oil is food safe. It is used on cutting boards and other wood kitchen utensils all the time.

Great demonstration. I’ve been looking for a way to coat a kuksa. Will this also work for hot drinks?

No, unfortunately this is a cold-beverage solution only. Hot beverages are hard to find a solution for. If you find one, let me know, because I'm looking too!
