Welcome to Gina Makes It! Today I am sharing how quickly and easily I coffee-dye my paper, doilies, fabric, journaling cards, and ephemera. There are many techniques out there and this is what works best for me -- and maybe it will for you too! This process takes just a few minutes and helps to quickly build a bolstering stash of coffee-dyed goodies!
Stay tuned for the next four comprehensive videos in the series:

Cool. I do this one sheet at a time, then put on my oven tray and bake in the oven. Also on a good day can dry on the line

It’s a little too windy around my parts to dry outside, but lucky you! 🙂

Loved how that fabric turned out at the end! I am going to try this method as well. It's so simple yet great effects on the paper and not oven over the spring and summer months!

This is such a cool series! And aren’t you getting clever with your videos with that inset frame? 😀 Very profesh! I’m going to do this tomorrow with some pieces to use in the mini hanging file folder album I just made like yours! It’s going to be a gift for our CSA farmers when we see them again at the farmer’s market and I’m really excited to use your ideas! Thanks for sharing!!

Love this video! I'm going to dye some legal paper today. Thanks for the tip about the dollar doilies. They turned out great! I didn't know that you could get paper 12" x 12". If you don't mind sharing, I would love to get some. Thanks so much!

Hi Dawn! The 12x12 white paper is sold at most craft stores like Joanns and Michaels! I get mine in a pack of 50. ☺️

Thank you for sharing this Gina!! I Love this process!! I haven't coffee dyed ephemera, but I will now! Going to make a pot of coffee when I get home from work! LOL You made it seem simple instead of the day long process I've always done. Legal paper works well for Little Golden Books!!! Looking forward to your next video!!! :)

Me too! If you don’t mind some papers on you countertop for a day or two, it’s perfect. I think the natural transfers from the piles are my favorite part!

Hi Gina. Have you already experiment with letting copier paper dry with a doily in between each sheet? I was wondering if the doily would leave coffee marks... ☺️
@GinaMakesIt
@GinaMakesIt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Isabel...it might, especially if it’s lower in the pile with heavier pieces of paper above it. I sometimes get transfers of ephemera that is tucked between pages. This may be my next coffee-dying experiment! 😊

Hi Gina, hope you are well 👍🏻 Thanks for the great explanation 💖 If you like to have some coffee in a spray bottle to make some splashes or dying only a few pages like me you could get some drops of alcohol in your coffee and it will be nice for a long time... Some people add baking soda to the coffee to make it alkali...do you think it’s important to preserve the paper in good condition for the next year's??? Hugs Victoria 🦋
@GinaMakesIt
@GinaMakesIt 3 жыл бұрын
That’s very interesting! Does the baking soda or alcohol prevent the coffee from getting moldy? Or does it do something specific for the paper application?
@victoriafortunato1669
@victoriafortunato1669 3 жыл бұрын
@@GinaMakesIt yes, the alcohol prevents the coffee from getting moldy!! Some of the crafters mean that the acidity of the coffee could damage the paper in future years...
@GinaMakesIt
@GinaMakesIt 3 жыл бұрын
Oh, I see. I drink coffee so much that I always have some on hand, so I’m not so concerned about it getting moldy. I’ve have paper in journals that I coffee dyed about 5 years ago and it’s still holding up pretty well, but I’m not sure about 25 years! I guess time will tell. 🙂

Did you not seperate them whilst drying? Also I’m wondering how much coffee/water ratio is x
@GinaMakesIt
@GinaMakesIt 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Naomi! Sometimes I separate them and sometimes I don’t. When I don’t separate them, they take longer to dry. The coffee to water ratio is however I make coffee that morning, so typically I’ll fill the carafe up to the 6 cup line and add three scoops of coffee with my coffee scooper.

Hello love you video. So I'm wanting to coffee dye cardstock, its a small 3×2 inche piece that was for coloring on. It was colored when I got it, it looks like colored pencils or fine point markers were used. I want to coffee or tea dye it. Can I do that since it already been colored! Btw it is a coloring page, idk where they got it but was made to be colored and was colored already. So how would I go about aging the paper/ dying the card stock with ruing the coloring and words? I want to use it as a inspirational saying decor item? It a small Bible verse color card so cute
@GinaMakesIt
@GinaMakesIt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeniffer! To avoid the colors bleeding, instead of soaking it in coffee, you may want to drip coffee on it around the colored part or spritz it with coffee in a spray bottle. You can also ink up the edges with distress ink. Hope this helps! 🙂

@@GinaMakesIt Yes it surely does help me very much so in fact. That's what I was afraid if, I was worried it would bleed!!! Boy oh boy am I ever so grateful fur your answer!! . Thank you so very much ☺️ Jen

Sometimes at first, but the smell greatly diminishes. I love coffee, though, so I don’t mind!
