Oh, I DO like this video! It's very clear and close-up and I love the sounds in the background. Some eight years ago I grew geraniums from seed. Mixed colours. Never dreamed it would work, but I got white, light pink, orangy pink, light and dark red flowers! Since then I've been growing new plants from the plants themselves, but never again from seed. I want to give away some of the seeds, so I needed to know how to harvest them. Thank you! Here, in NW Europe, I bring the plants indoors in November to a cool room after I have pruned them. They do not like cold wind, but can handle a bit of cold, so I only put them out again in May.

Thank you so much! Now I need to know how to save and plant for the next season. I have 3 plants that I purchased at Lowe's for 88 cents and they have bloomed all winter. I can't wait to grow more! Thank you!

I always thought that those little stick sticking out of the geraniums were seed pods, but I wasn’t sure. I am so glad to have seen your video. Thank you so much. The only thing I can say, for everyone is not to put the seed pods in plastic until you are absolutely sure that they are totally dried out. In fact, I would probably make a little paper pouch, such as a paper seed pouch for the seeds. I have learned many times, putting my seed pods or any kind of seeds that I have collected in plastic usually ends up in the molding because there’s a little slight moisture on the seeds. Also, another thing is to make sure you label these package envelopes that you put the seeds in along with the date. I am notorious for collecting seeds, and then forgetting what they are or when I collected them.

Thank you! Great advice on how to properly store geranium seeds or any seeds really. This man's video was very helpful and your comment also. I will make sure to write down the names of the flower seed and the date on the paper pouch as you suggested. I just found out that you can harvest geranium seeds. Some of my ivy geraniums are over 20 yrs old and not looking so good. Will be planting their seeds now.

So then you take off the "wings" from the seed when you plant it?

Wonderful presentation! For timing...here in the US...we can just shade the plant over winter and taking cuttings in spring? This would be around March or April.

Awesome explanation- done better then anyone on here! So if I’m understanding Correctly seeds only come from the spiky parts on the geranium so therefore if they don’t have the spiky parts there’s no seed?
@breathingspace39733 жыл бұрын
That is Correct

Question: what "prompts" the Geranium to set seed??? Let it dry? End of the season? We're at 3,000 feet in the Rockies and the plants are still vigorous outside, flowering, good green growth, but I've never seen them set seeds.

Hello @Dwight, I am not entirely sure but what i have learnt through my experience is that End of Lifecyle of every plant is related to Temperature. I live in Northern India which has 4 seasons. Over here we have seasonal Plants. I would suggest you to take 1 Branch of Dying Flowers and Keep it aside (not in direct sunlight) and wait for a week to let it dry and open Seed Pot.

Hi I have a question. If i live in a sunny warm area year round like arizona do i need to wait for the next season? can I start growing seeds from the plants that just bloomed for me this year?
@breathingspace39732 жыл бұрын
you should wait for right temperature to start the germination process

It's currently the monsoon season in Bangalore. Is it ok to sow the seeds now? I have enough shade to protect them in my terrace garden. I love growing plants from seeds and been waiting to grow these! Online I see these classified as winter sowing. Please let me know.
@breathingspace39733 жыл бұрын
Hello Varuna, i would suggest to grow them as soon as the temperature falls below 30 degrees.
