I'm a naturalized US citizen. I receive my SS benefit at a BDO bank account. I also deposit a US personal check in my local BDO Dollar account monthly and withdraw in either peso or dollar after about 20 days.

From www.ssa.gov/foreign/ . "The Social Security Administration will resume mailing the forms SSA-7161 and SSA-7162 in late June 2022. Forms will be mailed according to the schedule that was in effect prior to the pandemic (i.e. if you were expecting a form in 2020, you will receive it in 2022; 2021 in 2023). Please complete and return the forms promptly to avoid suspension of benefits."

All social security can draw from usa and in philippines ALL. no ssi can, that not social security its suplimentury security income. None can leave the state you reside in usa only. It state welfare not federal social security this means no medicaidis good out of the state it paid from, only medicare only is of federal social security tax preimum paid at least 45 years every week you paid ssi is welfare not worked anough so state welfare pays it only

I can confirm that your account in the pinoy bank that receives social security funds must only be in the social security receipients name only. I use Metrobank and the service is free of any fee what so ever. Dollar for dollar I receive my ss payment like clockwork. Its a passbook account and I need to visit the bank with my passbook to access the USD for $ withdrawl or conversion to PHP.

I think social security office,, needs to investigate where and who the person living and mandatory to appear personally to the office. There are a lot of person who get away the person already die in other country, but the family continue receiving the SS money from died member bcz they did not report the person collecting die.

When my parents retired to Pinas 20 years ago, they inquired about their SS pension to have it send to Pinas. The SSA would deliver the check to Pinas but their would be a $100 monthly deduction from their pension. They decided against it and have thier checks deposited to their US bank instead. We Xoom their money to their Pinas bank.

A lot of comments that keeping SSA benefits in a US bank is a better strategy and I totally agree. But it may not be feasible for some retirees who have moved permanently back to PHL. Opening a US bank account requires a physical US address, per the Patriot Act. Every now and then, institutions like BofA or WF would require the account holder to review his profile (which includes the physical US address) and certify that the information is still correct. Providing false information to a bank is a felony.

My 2 cents. Setting up your SS checks to be deposited in a dollar account in the Philippines is more expensive in exchange to peso fees than it is to draw from a USA bank via ATM. It also depends on your bank for atm fees, exchange fees on top of PH bank rates. Example rate fee from BPI, $4.23 foreign atm fee per transaction at todays rate of P58.98 per $1. BDO, $3.50 atm fee per transaction at a rate around P57.96. BDO always has the lowest rate of exchange. FYI, look out for using you atm card at SM Malls. They use BDO

Too easy to open a bank account in Pinas, then, unless you're too broke, simply have paper checks, from your american banking institution, and deposit one, written for the desired amount, into your Philippines account! The draw back in this plan is some people won't have the 1-2 month's money left in their american account

That is true, but check with your bank about usability of your ATM card and applicable fees. That varies from one bank to another.
@92646snake
@92646snake 2 ай бұрын
That is correct in the case of major US banks like Chase, Citi, BofA, WF, etc. There will be two kinds of transaction fees for using a US ATM card in a foreign ATM: one from the US bank (usually 5 USD) and another fee from the owner (BPI, BDO, etc) of the local ATM (usually 250 PHP). That means a total of 10 USD in fees for each withdrawal. There are some financial institutions that reimburse these foreign ATM transactions. For example, Charles Schwab will reimburse those foreign ATM fees at the end of the month back into your Schwab account. Wells Fargo will immediately reimburse the fees if you maintain an overall relationship of at least $250K.

We were married for four years, and he was receiving security retirement benefits. I'm now 25 years old, with debts to pay and a child to support. You can withdraw from most ATMs in PH. However, there would be transaction fees from both the local bank that owns the ATM and your US bank. Typically, the fees are $5 from each bank, so an ATM withdrawal will cost you $10 in fees. Unless you have an US bank account like Schwab or Wells Fargo Premier+, that reimburses the foreign ATM transaction fees.

I have an online postal service with a US address. I have a bank account with Citibank . Citibank is in the Philippines. My SS goes directly into my account. Why does anyone including the government needs to know I am in the Phil? Will there be an issue with this setup?
@92646snake
@92646snake Жыл бұрын
The issue with that setup is that SSA will not know if the pensioner has passed away and will continue to deposit the pension in Citibank. Hospitals and funeral homes in the US are required to report deaths to the government and pensions are automatically terminated upon receipt of the report. SSA needs to be informed if a pensioner has permanently moved out of the US so they could verify if the pensioner is still alive.

Hi Margie, I’m a US citizen and I just came back from the Philippines 2 days ago, I was there for a month and I drove everyday during the entire time of my vacay. What I know with international drivers license you’re allowed to drive outside US for 30 days. Last feb I was also in the Phils. And I was stop by policeman for routine check and he doesn’t know the rule also, so I told him about the 30 days and no problem. I hope this help..

@@lorenaguardian1744 The Land Transportation Office (LTO) allows the use of a valid foreign driver's license in PHL up to 90 days from date of arrival. According to RA 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code): “Bonafide tourists and similar transients who are duly licensed to operate motor vehicles in their respective countries may be allowed to operate during but not after (90) days of their sojourn in the Philippines.” Make sure you print a copy of FAQ from the LTO website in case you are stopped by a traffic enforcer who is not familiar with this rule. Also bring along a document, such as your passport or a boarding pass, that would indicate your date of arrival in PHL as proof that you are within the 90-day rule.

You don't have to worry about returning to the US to keep on collecting SS benefit. In fact, you can have SS Admin send you the benefit to the Philippines. The 6-month limit is if you are a green card holder, and does not affect your SS benefit. It affects your ability to return to the U.S. for not being a citizen of the U.S.

SSI benefits will stop if a recipient is outside the United States for more than 30 days, and benefits won't start up again until the recipient is back in the US. SSI is based on need (like welfare) and not earned through work credit.

You have to live in the USA for five years to be eligible. If you have not, you can still move to USA after your spouse has passed then once you have been there five years you can receive benefits. The five years does not have to be consecutive, meaning if you lived in USA for three years before with your spouse, you can go for two more years to qualify.

i know someone who was married to a Filipino US pensioneer and when he died his wife who was never gone to the US was receiving pension [ US dollars } in the Philippines until she died , I think this is the SURVIVOR benefit she was getting . you need to write to inquire the SSS office {US } or go to US Embassy in the Phils if you live there . or go ONLINE, this is more than enough to regularly support you monthly until you die .Good Luck . maybe you will be needing a marriage certificate . birth certificate of your husband and you , and your bank account.
