Just my opinion, I would not recommend direct deposit to any Phils bank. The problems I've had with the biggest bank here, BDO, nixes any trust I would have with direct deposit to them. I personally have my SS deposited with Wells Fargo, NA. Then transfer online what I want thru their partnership program with certain Phils banks. Been doing it for 5 years now & no problems with Wells Fargo, only issues have been with BDO

You just file online with your Philippines address, after you submit the application the SS office in Manila will contact you and set up a phone interview. It was really easy, but it takes a few month before it starts.

If you collect SSDI and live overseas, you are required to return to US every 6 months, stay 30 days, provide proof of stay to SSA. Wash, rinse, repeat every 6 months. I THINK you can get around this by maintaining your US address and putting your cash benefit in a US Bank. Just make sure you have a friend or family member forward any SSA correspondence to you as quickly as possible. Fill out the forms,send it back to your family and have them mail it to SSA. My disability is considered permanent and I have not had a re- evaluation since I started collecting SSDI in 2017.
@piratecovephilippines47118 ай бұрын
Negative, you are not required to return to the US to keep SSDI in effect. Many stay here year after year with only a Philippines address and funds deposited into a Philippines bank.

Here's another option people can consider.It's what I'm doing.I'm retiring next April (65) & moving there to Bohol.Find an international bank near you in the US,that has branches in the PI.I just recently opened an account with Citibank where I'll have my SS direct deposited.Citibank has a big branch in Cebu,which is a 2hr ferry ride from Bohol and where I'll be flying into when I come.Once I get there I can go to the branch in Cebu, & have a debit card issued from that branch off my account.MY SS will be deposited to my account here,which I'll have access to through the branch there.By the time I leave next May(or early June) I should have about 75K in my account with what I've already saved & will save between now & then.Once I get there I'll be taking probably about 50K of that & depositing it in a Philippine bank.I'll be applying for a SRRV (special resident retirement Visa after I get there.One of the requirements is to deposit at least 10K in a Philippine bank.With a debit card from the branch in Cebu,I'll have access to & be able to draw my monthly SS from my Citibank account for monthly living expenses.The rest will be a security blanket.Also for Buying a vehicle,furniture,exct... I also have my online portfolio which will be connected to my Citibank account.I'll be selling off some of my holdings from time to time & using the proceeds for trips to other places in the Philippines & SE Asia,

You can apply 4 months before you are eligible for social security, my birthday is in early March so I am eligible to begin receiving my benifit in April, and my first direct deposit will be in May. So 4 months before my eligibility which is the first full month I Am 62 is April , I went on-line December 1st which was the first day I was eligible to apply. All went well, it was a little mind bending trying to answer the question of "list the last four times you were in the US for 30 consecutive days" and list the dates, so my last four visits to the Philippines I had to do the backwards, sideways math... it was difficult for me anyway, sometimers disease? It allowed me to list my under age kids and wife so hopefully they will give me the dependent child allowance as well automatically. I will report back Walter and tell you if it went as yours did with the phone interview ect. and if the eagle shits in May as expected. Did you begin receiving your deposit on the third of every month after the delay with your first deposit?

I am a Schwab client. Rebates on ATM withdrawal fees will appear as soon as the withdrawal is posed in the account history, usually one to two days. Sadly, Schwab sent me an E-mail on 6 October 2022 that they will no longer allow Americans to hold any account type if living in the Philippines. Effective 6 December all accounts will be "restricted" and going forward, only closing translations will be accepted. Japan and Viet Nam have partial restrictions, you may not open any new accounts. South Korea, Thailand and Cambodia have no restrictions. Funny but sad world we live in these days.

@@piratecovephilippines4711 My understanding is that you need to be 30 days past your birthday before you become eligible to start receiving your funds. There are also some other quirky rules concerning your actual birthdate in terms of the day in which you were born that will affect when they activate your account at least in the US.

Example: birthday is January 5, January then will not count. February is your first full month of benefits. That will be paid in March. I only lost about $2 in the exchange $ to ₱ in Western union + .99 cents for service fee total $3.00 so I still lost $3.50 the bank manager didn’t even tell me upfront you won’t get the exact amount you get from U.S. Bank so there is deceiving also the initial deposit now is $ 100.00 no more $5 like you said in the past of your blog.only the waiting period is longer 4-7 days to get it to my BDO peso account. It’s a pain I the neck get the money in BPI deposit it to my BDO savings account. Cause I don’t have any account except for that Foreign Currency savings Account. For the record The FBU confirmed that the difference of $6.50 on my pension was the transfer fee of that 4348 elink remittance portal. It’s not direct coming from SSSA treasury to BPI .Just to klet people know that they won’t get the exact amount of their pension kin the U.S. Bank if they transfer it in the Philippines 🇵🇭 local bank.
