use purple dye first, then use blue to make it a really deep blue. doing it before bloom helps a lot also! 😊 I'm doing mine now

Thank you for taking the time to explain and demonstrate how you did this. I have 17 Orchids and I have one orchid that has 28 blooms and 20 buds about to bloom. It is three years old. I love my orchids. My husband bought 9 at once by offering the worker at Walmart an amount for all of them that were reduced to Clearance...she got approval by Manager and I was so surprised and pleased. We had no idea what color they were. I now have 4 that are tiny, white orchid blooms so I am going to try to dye one of them blue. I am going to try to just add lots of blue food coloring to their plant food water. Again, thank you.

I recently purchased one of these dyed blue orchids from Publix about a month back. I think you've got part of the process in that mine seemed to have about a 1" shaving along the stem that was coated in blue coloring. On theirs, instead of cutting out a notch it looks as though they shaved a thin layer of the skin off. In addition, I also noticed a ton of blue along the roots and base as if in addition to infusing the base of the stem they mixed the coloring in with the food / water mixture.

Just found also there is a floral powdered dye that can be at nurseries maybe even Lowes and such. The color dye they used to dye roses is larkspur blue. The roots need to be fairly dry just before the buds are popping out, and then introduce the powder as directed . I'm wanting to help my daughter do this to her white ones when they get ready to bloom again

Great spot - not only enough light and shade, but also presumably cooler enough at night.

Great video! I too have become fascinated with the idea of dying an orchid blue. I've read various tips and something you may want to try next time is to start dying the flower stem when it first appears, so that the dye is going in before the flowers begin to develop. I haven't tried this yet myself but it seems logical. Also I have read that if you use black food colouring then an even more bizarre spectacle occurs- the black dye is broken down into various colours so you get multicoloured flowers. Again I have not tried this but I will the next time a new flower stem starts to develop.

I finally achieved results very close to the pros by inserting a micropipette tip (1 ml., purchased on eBay) using undiluted food color. Good color within 24 hours, both in blossoms and buds. Trick was in getting tip not to leak at insertion point. Sealed with waxy hair pomade stuff. Tried funnel and syring with bad results.

+Daisy 317 Where did you inject the color? The stem like in this video, or near the buds?

Thanks for the video. I just bought a indo mystic orchid and I love the deep blue color. I will have to give this a try.

I only just now found this. Thank you for this video as I couldn't find info on this anywhere! Your orchids were beautiful 9 years ago. I've never seen that many blooms. Wondering if dying stresses the plant at all? I want to give this a try!

I have done that by adding the food coloring to the waterings.

I got a "blue mystique #5" orchid last year that is just now showing new growth. I knew it was just a white orchid dyed blue but I didn't know how it was done. I was kinda bummed that it wasn't going to grow back blue, but now that I know how to do it I'm going to try this when the stem gets a bit longer

Mr Rasmussen, thanks for the video. If you want to achieve a deep blue...You need to start with a purple Orchid and use the same concept. :-) Good luck!

I noticed the Mystique Orchids have blue color in the leaves too. The dye may be absorbed by the roots. I'll try this technique on my white orchids. Thanks for sharing!

Julianne, usually about four inches high on the stalk, sometimes higher. It did not seem to matter. After getting great results, I have abandoned my experiments. The blue flowers do not last as long as the undyed ones, and indeed, the stalks died. The plants seem otherwise healthy and I expect them to send out new stems.

I'm doing this as we speak! it's amazing how quick the plant absorbs the dye, I tried setting up my gopro to do a time lapse of it but the lighting wasn't right so the pictures were blurry... how I am doing mine, I just did the small cut and wetted a small peice of paper towel to wrap around where I cut at and then just put my food coloring onto that until the dye started running or dripping from the bottom of the paper towel from having too much in it

Can i ask a question? I'm worried about the stem getting an infection. Should i seal the top of the plastic or the whole in the stem?

Can you alternate different colors and come up with a "tie dye" look?

Have u tried simply waterinq the plant with the food colorinq diluted in a little bit of water? Or Foliar Sprayinq the Flowers with the dye solution? Or both?

Hi William. I just watched your video and had to compliment you on your lovely backyard. I really like how it is screened in and private, yet open. Was the screening added for pool security or mosquitoes or wayward golf balls? Here in Arizona, it gets so hot out by the pool, but this looks like a nice option to provide some sun reduction without compromising the natural sunlight.

Wow never thought of doing it like this good idea. I got a blue orchid and after those ones died off the new ones came in white so we put them in a bowl of water with blue food coloring and they turned back blue. Now that those have died off now im working on making them orange.

Think you would have had better results with a plant still in bud vs open blossoms, but very clever idea. I think the growers use a micropipette tip.

Question... Where did you buy that funnel and what is it called??
@staceycolarusso18052 жыл бұрын
You’re not gonna get the vibrant blue color unless you inject or make a 45° tiny slice in the spike and wrap it with a sponge with blue food coloring before they board that’s when you get them to be very vibrant and blue if you wait till after they bud they’re only going to suck up a little bit and you’re gonna have your ending result but I see the video was eight years ago and I’m sure you have learned a lot from then

Don't know if this helps but...if in bloom I just run some water through the pot once a week and leave it to drain before putting it back in the pot ....I'm paranoid so leave a bit of kitchen roll under the orchid so draws away any water.....if not in bloom...I just let it have a soak for a few minutes then again leave to drain. Hope it helps.

They use a purple orchid to get the deep blue color not a white orchid so if you want it to be a dark deeper blue you have to use purple.

You took a white orchid, you took a white orchid and turned it blue. How dare you. How old are you now anyways? How dare you. How old are you now, anyways?
