I am nowhere near the body man you are, but I quickly learned that the better the color sanding job and taking the time to go to finer paper, the easier the buff work is and the better it ends up. Can't wait to see this car done! Awesome work as usual!

Nice video. like the pads for the da. never used them before for wet sanding. Did not know you could get them for a da. When I get time, I am going to detail my Sentra like this. Wish the wet sanding with da was around in the days of the lacquer jobs: They were quite the beast, although they looked amazing, worked fast, and were easy to spot repair. Then came the synthetic enamel, I could not learn to handle the spray gun with it, but by father sure could. The paint jobs were crazy, shiny looking. He had to start buying acrylic enamel that was a lot easier for me to use. LOL or COL, not sure which ~Thanks for the info.

As usual, a great video from our friend Pete. But maybe a video for us amateur's? Like showing how to fix a panel edge burn through after trying to color sand a new paint job? I know we're not SUPPOSED to do that, but we rookies do it all the time. So Pete, show us how to fix our screw ups???

Hey Pete, necromancing here. Great job in passing on the tape the edges concept, also I have used soap and no soap, I like the no soap better, seems to cut better. Now as far as your sander, I believe it is an R/A random action as opposed to a D/A dual action. Also for the just starting out folks, random action sanders come with different orbit sizes, I use a Dynabrade 5" with a 3/32" orbit for final clear/color sanding. Just some random thoughts Blue Mule NC

Of coarse the rustang looks visually stunning, Pete & Minnie are fantastic body repair and paint artists. Its my hope that Pete & Minnie take on nomore restorations, enjoy their new home and take on money making easy body and paint jobs.

@diyautoschool

burning edges means you have the buffer going the wrong way.. your going against the edge with the buffer weather its a foam pad or a wool pad.. If you go away from the edge with the way the buffer is turning you will never burn through..

Pete, I’m not a body guy, I’m a mechanic, but I’m doing the total restoration on My 69 beetle including the paint. I was just wondering why it’s called “color” sanding when Your actually working on the clear coat? If I get down to the color, I went too far. Is that correct? Thanks Pete, didn’t know about the 8000, I will get some!
@lccdan1
@lccdan1 Жыл бұрын
Color sanding is an old term from the lacquer an enamel paint days. When you would sand after the paint dried it really was "color". The name stuck and is still used today even though you are only sanding the clear. The clear looks milky white when sanded. If you start seeing the paint color while sanding that's a really bad thing and you have to repaint and reclear.

I’m actually using single stage metallic, and clear coating also. Why, well why not! The “color” came out fantastic, but I got a few sags in the clear. So I guess it’s time to “ color” sand, but not color sand. Thank You All! 👍👍🇺🇸
@lccdan1
@lccdan1 Жыл бұрын
@@brianw8963 You can clear coat over modern single stage but it is usually easier (less likeiy to run) and cheaper to use basecoat. I know there is a time limit (usually 24 hours) to spray the clear on after you apply the basecoat. I'm not 100% certain but I think you can wait longer when you use single stage as a base but you would have to scuff it with a scotchbrite.
