I'm using those new Reolink cameras that huntingfarmer did a video on. They are cool. Final note.....let us know how your surgery goes. Your in our prayers.

It works really good. Coat them real good and then just wipe them off. Some people like to leave the stain on for a little while. I don't because they get sticky and have shiny spots. Let me know how it turns out and thanks for watching

So I just let a duffus do a European mount on a freshly killed deer. He coated the entire antlers with dark, shiny furniture stain, totally changing the color of the antlers, and it looks totally unnatural, like plastic or fake antlers. Any tips for getting that stain off and returning the antlers to their original color and natural luster? Thanks.

I hate to hear that. About the only thing you could try would be some time of stain stripper. But if I was gonna try it. I would try it on the back of the antler just to see what it does. Make sure it’s not gonna damage the antler. That’s the only thing I know to try. If you do get it all off then I would find a wood stain that match’s the natural color of your original antlers and try it on a small surface to see. Wood stain will soak into the antler and look more natural. He must have put varnish or eurthane on yours since it’s shiny

@@pineylife Thanks for the ideas. I told the duffus about five times, "I don't like shiny. I don't like glossy. I want to keep the antlers natural." Maybe a little bit of super fine sanding will take just enough off to make it look natural again. Another idea would be to take the antlers by the local Sherman Williams store and ask one of the oldtimers there for suggestions. If I take too much off and make them too white, I guess I can stain them again with a lighter color. Or maybe ask the local taxidermist I use for regular shoulder mounts, or maybe even just get him to do it for me. I have before and after pics. Same thing for the wooden plaque. Dufus will probably use clearcoat on that, even though I told him several times not to make it shiny. Oh well. It's not the end of the world, I have food and shelter, clothing and health care. Plus, he's not charging me much.

@@pineylife There's no telling what he put on it in addition to the early american stain. After looking at it more closely I see a couple of snow white peroxide blotches on it even as high as 6 or 8 inches from the bottom of the bases, and he missed covering those with the stain. For all I know, he may have lost control of it and accidently dropped it in the peroxide. We'll see. I think I'll ask the old guys at the local Sherman Williams store what they think. I haven't worked on it yet.

How can I get the antler the brown but leave the bumps sun bleached?
@pineylife
@pineylife Жыл бұрын
That’s a tough one. The only way I would say might work is use a very small brush and just lightly go around the burrs. It’s gonna be hard considering that antler is gonna want to soak up that stain.

How do I get wood stain off my deer skull??
@pineylife
@pineylife Жыл бұрын
I would try a little bit of paint remover or goo gone to see if it will remove it. If not then your other option is to tape it up and use white primer from a spray can to cover the skull so it has a natural white look.
