How to colour in Rooms of Wonder | Country Kitchen | Johanna Basford

Today I am going to work in Rooms of Wonder by Johanna Basford, and I will be continuing on this kitchen page.
I am using a combination of Polychromos pencils, as well as four Derwent Drawing Pencils, and my trusty Sakura Jelly Roll. For the Derwent drawing pencils I am using the colours Light Siena, Wheat, Green Shadow and Pale Cedar. Now, if you don’t have those pencils, don’t worry, you can use Polychromos Beige Red, Ivory, Juniper Green and Earth Green.
I’ve chosen to do the back wall using mainly Derwent Drawing pencils, and the main reason for this is that they are much more opaque, meaning that I can get away with fewer layers compared to the Polychromos. This also means that I can speed up the colouring process somewhat.

Hello, thanks for sharing with us! I find it difficult to colour large areas with polychromos, could you show us how you deal with large areas with these pencils? I mostly colour disney but I really like Johanna Basford's colouring books and I must say it is easier with small areas than large ones.

Of course. I did a large background for the Forest Library from Rooms of Wonder (it should be in my Rooms of Wonder playlist on my channel), in which I used some odourless mineral spirits to blend. That can sometimes help cover up the tooth, so you don’t have to add so many layers.
