I bought a glaze kit and completed this look about 15-20 years ago and loved the effect!! I’ve been looking everywhere for something similar for the past year and finally stumbled upon your video. Thank you so much. Great to know I do not have to fork out for an expensive kit and can use regular paint to achieve this technique!!

Ursula Key Hello. Thank you for writing. You are so right. It's one of those things that I regretted after the film had been uploaded. There was a still of the wall at the end but I was standing in front of the wall as well and I looked so smug that I had to take the picture away. I have uploaded a photo of the wall on my Instagram hanstice_wallpaper as a couple of other people have also mentioned this to me before as well🙂 Happy Easter! H

When I moved into my home, the plaster walls were painted horrible colors. I think I probably did one coat of primer but I needed to get all the walls covered quickly so that I could live in the house . it was going to be temporary, or so I thought. I bought inexpensive brown paint, added water, took a rag and washed all the walls with the water paint circles, cross patterns etc. After 15 years, I finally have the time to do it "right" but I really loved what I did. I felt as if I lived in a cozy cave. so easy. Everyone is getting in on the lyme paint and charging a lot. I am learning how to plaster and will figure out a way to DIY it. Thanks for the video. It's so creative, No hard rules. play

@onceuponawall-harryanstice25296 жыл бұрын
Hello. On my instagram page it's 12 rows down on the right hand side 🙂. You can use two colours but it's quite tricky and you mustn't overlap the colours too much or they will blend in to each other. Having said that . That might be the desired effect but it has to be done quickly without stopping until the whole wall is finished otherwise it can look very patchy. Regards H

Hello. Just ordinary water based paint. But I like to use a Matt paint so that the wall has a more flat finish.
@nicolegaffney45904 жыл бұрын
Love this effect. Exactly what I'm looking for. Reminds me of the pattern of venetian plaster. Kinda a industrial look. I'm looking to do a backsplash in medium gray. Would you recommend using base color that is just lighter already premixed and then take the darker color and and dilute that for the color wash? If not, how much white would you add to the color for the base? And how much water to how much paint do you think for the right consistency fo the wash? 24 square feet is what I'm covering. Thank you!
@onceuponawall-harryanstice25294 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thanks for writing in 🙂 Yes I would recommend using the base colour first. But remember the lighter the base colour the stronger the contrast. As for the top coat. Just keep mixing the water into the paint until you get the same consistency as milk. Then it has the transparency but still enough pigment. And when applying don’t forget to constantly catch the drips with the brush as it’s very runny. 1 to 2 litres should be more than enough. You can keep on re applying until you get the desired result. Very best of luck H.
@LuanneRH8 жыл бұрын
So, you choose a dark color. Added white which gave you the base coat color. Then you colored wash with the one paint that you order? Also, do you have a finished photo of the wall from the front actually showing the color wash.

@onceuponawall-harryanstice2529 Жыл бұрын
Hello. Eggshell will work. But you will often find that if the paint has to much of a sheen, the sheen can be more visible than the colour wash effect. But that can be quite a nice effect almost like fresco. And paint with a bit of sheen is definitely more durable. Regards H

Hi! I am looking to create a limewash finish on my wall but without using limewash, my base is almost a biscuit colour which I love, could I apply a white wash and then a slightly darker colorwash to get this effect without having to use a really dark wash colour? I dont think I want to paint the base colour again if i dont need too! Thanks so much for the video its great!
@onceuponawall-harryanstice25292 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thanks for writing in. I hope I can help. It’s no problem to apply a white wash and then a slightly darker colour although the effect will be more subtle. Just be careful to use a good quality paint for the white wash . Because if the coat is very thin you can damage it when you apply the top coat so the top darker coat has to be applied carefully. Harry Anstice I used a very dark blue in the kitchen but it is too dark. I will need to lighten it up any suggestions?
@onceuponawall-harryanstice25297 жыл бұрын
Rosemary Lee : If you want the Color wash effect I would do a color wash effect using the blue color with maybe roughly 25% blue and 75% white and do a thin coat to see how much lighter it gets. If you don't get the result you want repeat the process until you get the desired result. If your not happy with the end result you may have to start again from scratch 🙁 But this time start with a lighter base color and color wash over it with the diluted original color like I did in the video, but make the top oat thinner. I hope I've been able to help. Very best of luck. H
