I also use and love this method of teaching how to get a useful familiarity of the neck. Running scales and such is just busy work that gives MAYBE a 10% return in some basic finger dexterity...that would be better used learning and creating licks.

Finally a guy y'all can actually learn from!..he gets right to the point while playing the riff w/ tab!... I've been playing over 40 yrs and true to the form of truly loving guitar I'm always watching others to see what they have to share and offer music constantly evolves so there's always someone playing something new ..but I've grown tired of youtube guitar teachers who take up 90% of the video talking theory or basic techniques in an advanced teaching video!..HELLO ...you're teaching advanced but you come across pushing beginner 101 !!..y'all know them type A folk ...Eric doesn't do that ! unless it's a beginner lesson...and he automatically assumes if you're watching his video on writing licks that you already know how to play a lick and read guitar tab..and he loves some really great indie psych blues bands you've most likely never heard of! Great chance to add cool fresh tricks and sounds that haven't been over saturated in the blues world .I'm a blues guitarist and admit we need some freshness in da" blues!

Over a Blues with 3 Dominant 7 chords, start with the 3 tritones (3-b7), then 1-3-5-b7, then 1-b3/3-4-b5-5-b7, then add in 6-2. Finally b2-b6-7 can be used in chromatic lines. That’s all 12 notes over each chord.

Hi. Thanks, this was great. Could you please recommend diagonal in phrygian mode. I just watched your diagonal pentatonic lesson. I love the Phrygian but I can’t seem to make it sound musical. I just make it sound like a scale. Is there a trick to make it sound better than a wacky scale? Thank you for all your videos
@EricHaugenGuitar3 ай бұрын
My first suggestion would be to work on “miserlou” - that’s a classic Phrygian melody. Should give you some good ideas for phrasing!
@ELMENDORFX3 ай бұрын
@@EricHaugenGuitar Thank you. Yea, ive delved into that - Dick Dale surf guitar with Phrygian without the exact phrasing. I was hoping for something different and more concise going diagonally. I stay more vertically using mostly the E strings. But thank you. Besides the point - me being a surfer (not really into surf guitar) - he and I both shared a favorite surf spot; Huntington Beach “cliffs.” I found this out only a couple years ago. And his old house in Newport Beach Ca (bitchen house) at #TheWedge is just about 22 miles from me here in Long Beach. If you havnt seen it check out a great funny weird as hell (check out the hair) KZbin video of them playing together Dick Dale and Stevie Ray Vaughan. THANK YOU

Nice, maybe I'll finally make the time to learn the opening riff to Johnny B. Goode. 🙂 Walking from the maj3 to the min3 to the 2nd may not be used, but going the other direction is so prevalent in Bluegrass and Americana. That said, if you did use the descending version in a solo would the audience give you the stinkeye? ;-)
