The problem with doing this combo with Braids is that Hidetsugu’s trigger won’t go on the stack until after Braids’ trigger resolves. Your opponent has the choice to let you draw a card or not, and unless you put two Explosive Singularity’s on top of your deck, it’s likely for your opponent to accidentally ruin your combo. But this combo is sick and works with pretty much every other sacrifice outlet in standard

Ye staff of completions is way better for the combo. Costs only 1 life and tap to sack. And since it's an artifact less chance for interaction.

@@Luna-Lux none of that applies haha. Same mana costs. And you CAN ramp into it but you won't combo off since the staff will have been taped to sack. Also another sacrifice outlet is ashnod. So depending on the board rate, you can indeed ramp with this card then sacrifice with ashnod. Ashnod will be good death toucher early game to slow down enemy

You don’t have to. You are using the death trigger of hidetsugu and kairi. Even if the opponent sacrifices, you have still gotten the hidetsugu and kairi combo done through its death trigger

If you were to keep his color scheme to blue and black it's possible to have a combo that sets target player's life to ten which allows you to deal ten damage to an opponent and that combo works in commander.

A mitt full of reanimation spells would be pretty dope if your sac outlet was repeatable. Searing wind is even more useless than Explosive Singularity because it has not cost reduction mechanic and only costs 9. Magma Opus, Creative Outburst, and Elemental Masterpiece are all pretty dec.

I'm thinking of this as a nuts commander, which can let you basically free-cast any number of degenerate cards when comboed with any sacrifice outlet. Just to name a few examples, imagine this with Expropriate/Time Stretch or Rise of the Dark Realms.

Unless im mistaken, would the braids effect finish before the Kairi trigger goes into the stack? Meaning depending on if an opponent sacrifices a creature or not means the Kairi and hidetsugu trigger would either see the top, or second from the top card and which one is dependant on your opponent's choice to sac or not (if they have one)

I can think of a few ways to build this as a commander and use big spells like Time Stretch to essentially do the same thing. Take extra turns and keep reusing the ability. In commander you would want to run things like Supernatural Stamina so when you sacrifice the commander, it comes right back, triggering the etb. Right now I'm imagining this deck as big mana spells, resurrection spells, and counter spells. Maybe there's a few creatures you could throw in, but it would mostly be Instants and Sorceries
