Fox may have better matchups overall, but Falco beats Fox by a slight but significant margin. Falco has more reach on his moves (sans his Shine,) and Falco can punish Fox with his combo game harder than any other character.

People are gonna hate me for saying that Fox's combos are just as good as Falco's, but it's so true. Up air, Up smash, Up throw, and tech chasing is all you need, and you WILL 0-death Falco if you execute correctly, whereas with Falco most of his combos are 50/50 DI mix ups that aren't guaranteed. Once you get Falco to percents where up air stops giving you follow ups, just bair/shine them offstage and get a free edge guard. Boom. 0-death. In the neutral all you have to do against Falco is powershield (it's not that hard guys) and then use your superior APM to beat him out. Fox obviously has the edge (kek) when edge guarding, he has just as good (if not better) combo game, and arguably better neutral game. All this comes from a Fox main who gets very little practice against Falco and tends to perform quite poorly against them. I am personally mediocre in the MU, but at least I can realize that it's my fault and not just a favorable MU for Falco. In short, Fox wins.

I'd say it's even. People say like "just powershield lasers" and Fox wins. But I haven't seen much consistency of that, and even if you do, you get like 1% and a good projectile to cover your approach. And Falcos will obviously adapt to it, learning how to deal with laser coming back at him. There is also the mute/fake laser, or whatever it called, where you do it so low it doesn't come out, could be used as a mind game since some players try to react to the sound, and then making them shield unnecessarily. I also think that Falcos punish-game is a lot easier and cleaner than Foxs, and that Foxs requires more precision to really like 0-death Falco, while Falcos is more true and have more variations. Falco also have more range on his moves than Fox, and an AC B-air which is really safe, and also is heavier, meaning better CC. So y, I think it's pretty much even. Falco probably wins the MU at non-top level, but at top level it's pretty much even.

It's really not that hard, combined practice that I put in for powershielding is probably just a few hours, and I can do it pretty consistently at this point, in and out of tournament. Aside from lasers, Falco has slightly larger hitboxes for the neutral, but Fox's superior APM beats that out in my opinion.

When you shoot a laser, it isn't as much of an advantage as it's made out to be (unless sound is turned off) because the SOUND is easier to react to than visual cue. Lasers simply aren't as dominant in the meta as before, and powershield laser is becoming more prominent and common.

Low/Mid Lv: Fox can't deal with short hop lasers and pillaring fox as falco isn't too hard to learn, any falco who invests 2+ hours practicing pillaring will be able to destroy fox. IMO I strongly believe falco wins 60:40 at the very least in low lvl play, and falco wins 55:45 in mid level play High Lv: Foxes speed and raw tech skill starts to outshine(no pun intended) falco as falco starts to slow down due to a long jump squat and poor horizontal movement. Fox probably has an advantage 55:45

Depends on certain situations. In PAL, Falco dominates even at the highest play due to less kill power with Fox. NTSC the line is blurred a fair bit. Depends on the player, West for example. On a technical perspective Fox wins at top level, any lower I feel it's even.

Falco beats fox because his punish game is actually stronger for teching in a direction you get shined up into hit stun for an auto D-air set up. Anyone who says smash DI beats falco around hasn't seen what happens when fox gets smash DI'd. He literally loses his air kill set ups for up air. His shine can't get into position to spike and to be honest Falcos Illusion is just flat out faster. It also can punish if you miss trying to punish it with a spike hit box. His D-air covers ledge options of Foxes recovery as well as characters like Peach and Sheik (although sheiks is harder to punish). His lazers can gimp easily and his double jump is one of the highest. Yea Fox has a shine spike and better ground mobility but falco is an air demon as was his design. He was meant to conquer the air. His smashes minus up smash are majority stronger and his Shine can kill off the top of the stage with ease and even fox can suffer from it. But the fact that foxes D-air in comparison isn't much of a combo tool except at higher percents and on certain characters gives falco all the wiggle room he needs. He can take someone from 0% to 130% in a matter of seconds and his options for coverings after a shine are vastly larger than fox seeing as how much of foxes shine options are just wave options like wave shine to wave up smash or up tilt while can can wave shine wave Utilt, N-air, U-air, B-air, D-air, F-air. He just has a better set up game to force people to his will. you don't know how he will cover an option so your DI can be bad at any point. Fox can do short hop B-airs to cover DI that is moving behind him him but so too can falco and at a faster and higher range. He can catch recoveries that are going high without the use of a platform. Up B might be worse for falco but since a majority of his other tools such as air mobility, Jump Height, and even a shine that forces options that might not be advantageous. Falco just clearly wins it in my book. Yea again Foxes shine is a pretty ok counter because catching double jumps but falco can do the same but instead shine them up for a free back air and Fox cannot come back at all from that. Falco just true combo's earlier and can kill fox faster than fox can blink. I will point out the double shine d-air Mang0 pulled out as well as the many 4 stocks falcons have pulled on Leffen who I can say is one of the best fox players I have ever seen. I might not like Leffen but I can admit skill where it is and he has it. but even Westballz has proven Falco's strength. thats my data pools and proof on that match up. In general, I believe Falco should take the victory. His lasers can keep Fox playing his game, and his combos are much better. He doesn't succumb easily to Fox's vertical hits, but Fox is easily killed by Falco's horizontal moves. The only issue would be shine spiking, but if the Falco is controlling the pace, it's a wrap for Falco. You have to be absolutely god-like as a Fox to defeat Falco, and even then, Falco can still take it.

How to combo Floaties with Falco? Peach, Puff? And mid speed? Marth Sheik. Characters you shouldn't over extend against? Samus, Luigi. All of these would be very useful to know

To combo floaties, after the initial shine, double jump over them and fall with a dair. then uptilt don't over extend vs anyone. over-extending implies you went too far

I noticed that if u been using down air lately ( causes Stale-Move Negation) you can do one more down air shine, before it is tech able, if u start pillaring on 0 % :)

Fox and Falco are very even and it's hard to chose who would win. Falco definitely wins neutral but Fox also has heavy punish game on Falco and also has chain grabs at low % so I can't chose as it's all about how the game plays out.

it's an even matchup,they both have an insane punish game on each other if Falco gets a shine combo it can lead to death and if fox gets a grab it can also be fatal

The MU is decided by who the crowd is cheering for. Falco is swaggier, so he wins more often.

The amount of work Falco has to do to finish Fox stocks vs the reverse makes Fox win.

Falco wins, unless the Fox is able to get grabs. Fox's grab on Falco is basically a Falco shine, as it's the best way to open him up and it leads to gigantic punishes and possible 0-deaths (not just on FD). If the Falco doesn't let the Fox get free grabs, Falco wins. Falco has the defensive options to deal with Fox (cc shine, amsah tech/sdi up the thunder's combo, utilt, AC bair, aerials in place, etc.) to deal with most of Fox's offense, and his lasers and shine are ridiculously broken af. At the end of the day though, I think this it the most even matchup in the entire game.

I say Fox if he doesn't get hit and knows how to power shield well. All you really need to do is play like Marth, and since your moves are a bit quicker than Falco, it's a lot like playing just a really fast Marth in this matchup. At least that's my experience, I usually c-pick Fox on Falco or just play the ditto. So Fox 6-4 Falco.

i think fox vs falco is slightly favored in falco's favor at all stages of play - when a falco like westballz is playing on point, i think he gets way more off an opening in neutral on average compared to a top fox.
