I’ll add my “voice” to say that by selecting “record in layers” on the bottom toolbar, you get all the layers and the main comp track displayed for you without any additional clicks. I’m not sure, but I think I learned that from you, Joe, a few years ago. That made it possible for me to even consider recording my work, with my limited skills as a singer and guitar player. Seems like today’s version takes more effort than that.

Good video and studio one keeps impressing me!! Two notes though: 1. At 8:20 you say that you can't color the layers individually, but you can! The color selector is to the right of the layer solo button. 2. At 11:59 you have the third layer soloed and never take it off, which means none of the stuff you do after actually makes it into the song. Would probably be nice if soloed layers showed up in the left side inspector because it completely overrides the selected layer without showing you. 😁

In S1, I always set the recording mode to Multiple Takes before I start recording so the program automatically creates my layers as I punch in and out, whether I am loop recording or not. Also, I never bother with renaming the comp layers because I'm good with the default naming. I think S1 comping is simply fantastic and it has really helped me forget about the pain of moving on from Sonar. BTW Joe, you sound like Martin Smith, minus the accent, of course LOL!

@@Emily_M81 Thanks 🙂, but I've only found tutorials with one audio track. What I meant was the alignment of multiple audio tracks. The end result should be that all tracks are in the same beat. Good day, Please I am recording a single track on a beat track. I am only exporting my audio recording to be sent to my producer. The tempo of the beat is 135, 48Khz and 64bit rate. I set all these on my export settings and even before I started recording. When I play back my audio everything is fine but once I export and send to my friend, the tempo kept skipping and Jumping( From 135, to 137, to 138, sometimes 154) This has been happening and getting me frustrated. I have reinstalled the app several times. I have also sent the same audio to 3 different people with different software and the problem remains the same. Please, I need your help

Hey Joe. You've done it again. Made another Comping video where you start by saying it's so much easier to do in Studio One, and then you go on to show the terrible clunky way of doing it. It's so much easier than the way you are demonstrating. 😊
@EricJohnson-fh8zj
@EricJohnson-fh8zj Жыл бұрын
I was thinking there should be a easier way myself. Like set loop points and have the layers record automatically would be best. Do you mind giving a overview of how you do it? Also can you also choose certain bits to layer each other (both play) instead every piece cutting all the other layers out? Or would ya just have to do that with a whole seperate track?
@DeanusMcWildthing
@DeanusMcWildthing Жыл бұрын
@@EricJohnson-fh8zj Howdy. Yes, first thing you do is turn on Takes to Layers before you start recording. That prevents you having to manually add layers and name them. You've basically right there avoided many clunky steps that Joe was taking right off the bat. Weirdly in this video Joe didn't seem to know how to recolor his takes when the buttons for that are right there. Then when comping drag over each phrase to create individual regions. I tend to go through the whole song and do this. The easiest way to create these quickly is to drag over each phrase back and forth on two different takes. So let's say you've recorded 3 takes, you have quickly without even listening created a Comp that has each phrase taken alternately from takes 1 and 2. Make sure you have Loop Follows Selection turned on (mine always is). Now you highlight the first of these phrases in the Comp Track and turn on Looping. The important thing to remember here is that you click the phrase in the Comp track, not in one of the takes. Now when you play the phrase will loop and all you have to do is use you up and down arrows on the keyboard to select the different takes. Once you've decided on the take you like, move on to the next phrase by hitting your right arrow which has now selected the next event in the comp track. You need to pause and then hit play again for the Loop to move on to that next event. You can easily whip through your whole song vocal in 5 minutes or so and all you've been using is your spacebar and arrow keys. No mouse action required. Honestly why would you ever mess around with those take lane solo buttons unless you really wanted to slow yourself down. Just as an extra tip (take it or leave it) I always colour my takes like the rainbow i.e. Take1 Red, Take 2 Yellow, then Pink, Green, etc. This way you can easily see in your Comp Track which take each phrase comes from. Hope this helps.
@EricJohnson-fh8zj
@EricJohnson-fh8zj Жыл бұрын
@@DeanusMcWildthing Awesome 👌. Much appreciated. Using this process can you also enable a way for more than only 1 of the takes to play back simultaneously? For instance, if I recorded 2 takes and sectioned them off into 4 phrases or parts where I wanted to choose between the takes...could I comp between each take for the first 3 phrases, then on the forth have both takes be simultaneously audible to create a layered/backing vocal effect? Or is it easier to move the other take to seperate track altogether? I'm just trying to avoid creating a whole new track & processing for only 1 or 2 short phrases if I can help it. Once I start doing that (for instrument as well as vocals) all those little tidbits start to add up to a lot of extra tracks with almost nothing on them...except a ton of processing just for a short 2 second snippet of waveform lol.

Nice video. I've changed from Mac to Windows and therefore am leaving Logic. Torn between Studio One and actually Cakewalk. In all honesty, comping is good in Studio One but really great in Cakewalk. In Cakewalk you can simply set the recording mode to comping. It automatically creates new comp sub tracks. This way you van record in loop creating a new comp track for every loop. You can simply set sections and jump between them with the arrow keys and select the one you like. This one goes to you main track. Really fast and intuitive. Checking out some more tutorials from both DAWs before choosing

Been using Studio One 3 since 2017 (finally about to update soon). But have never known this was an option and was this easy, always did separate tracks then comped manually. Also great voice. Lastly, a little trick that was used for Dave Grohl (I believe) who wanted to track vocals to speakers instead of with headphones. Flip the phase while recording, then after it's recorded, flip the phase again and a good portion of the speaker bleed will be gone.
