This is easily one of the best videos ever done on the channel. I love these super technical videos where Ian goes deep into the details. This is why I love TXG and this is the type of content that separates this channel from any of the others in the golf space. This is also a great example of why having multiple testers is so valuable. Seeing multiple different deliveries and explaining the why behind each one makes the content easy to understand. Well done!

Definitely the most easily understood explanation of dynamic loft and the impact it can have on your yardages. Being able to see those 3 different swings with the same club and the fact that one guy swings 2 MPH faster but it goes 18 yards shorter is very eye-opening.

I think I speak for a strong majority when I say that we absolutely love the gear you boys at TXG review, and the Monday Q&A’s, but this video (and videos like these) are so informative and satisfying to watch because there is 3 different skill sets that reach out to a broad audience! Delivery and technique and pairing it with data, is a great tangible way to show your audience that all of us gear geeks could benefit with last years model of irons and a dozen lessons in lieu of this years model and continuing down the same path of inconsistency and frustration. Keep up the great content gentlemen!!

By far, this is why you’re the best of best of the KZbin golf channels. This video is exactly what I needed to send to my buddy. Once I understood the dynamic loft at contact, it helped me take better control of my irons. I carry my 6iron with a DG AMT S300 shaft, 182y avg.,which was cool but the dispersions were inconsistent. Then I hit my 2nd set’s 6iron (both TM B 716) with a DG AMT X100 shaft on it, it was straighter but carried 175y avg. which I can deal with by adjusting my gaps accordingly. CONGRATS!! 🎉🎊🎈🍾 On using slow mo to show what a compressed strike looks like. Even though I had learned about shaft lean a while ago, it was exciting seeing it explained on TXG. Ian, your channel is evolving as it should and in the right direction. Awesome 👏 video.

The video you guys did on ball position in the stance has changed my game in one day. Used to have the ball way forward and didn't understand why my driver and long irons were constantly pull-slices that went nowhere and my wedges were just high pulls. Now, with the ball back in the stance, the drives are straighter and longer, the irons are compressing the ball properly adding 15-20 yards and straighter, and the wedges are much easier to hit correctly and control. Thanks Ian and TXG.

FABULOUS video, guys! You just explained why, after playing several rounds in very strong winds, I have been hitting my irons more than one club longer when the winds die down. Into those strong winds, I was playing a lot of knock-down shots, and a side benefit of doing that was that I was shallowing my swing and reducing my dynamic lofts on the irons. When I get out on the course in light wind conditions, I have kept that swing, which seems to now be ingrained in my DNA, and I am hitting my irons distances that I have not seen in about 20 years.

Really good explanation of the discrepancy. I think if people understand that rotation creates compression, not swinging down, then they can stripe the ball more often. Its a real hard concept for people to grasp, that de-lofting the club can make the ball go up.

This is great stuff. Low left exit with the hands (from your previous video with Ryan) has instantly dropped my launch 5 degrees and brought 15-20 yards of carry on my 7-iron. Thank you!! Can’t wait to try it on the course when spring actually arrives here.

I’ve got to ask what is the feeling here during the swing. I know for a fact I’m not utilizing my speed. My 7i is 92mph and it’s like a 175 club for my. I know that’s due to my dynamic loft. I’m like 2° short of a really nice swing. Is the feel a punch/stinger type swing? I need to feel like I’m hitting a sawed off low ball?

Brilliant video. I used slowmo and frame advance to see the differences here. Ryan is into the ball when his hands haven't even reached his right knee @2:25 so he's releasing very early. Ian, on the other hand, still has his club head 12-18 ins. behind the ball when his hands reach his left knee @8:58. From there they only travel another 2-3ins. while the club head travels a yard through the ball. This is not only compression but delofting too, hence the lower flight and greater distance. Add to that the club head is spending more time travelling along the target path and the late release creates a faster club head speed at impact. Tying all those together........that's another story.

This is my favorite golf channel. I liked video in particular so much as it brings in #'s from a swing speed like more relatable to many viewers. Based solely on their distance carry it I would guess these 2 driver swing speeds are 90-100. I would love to see more videos in the 95-100mph ss range. But either way still the best channel out there.

Well put. When my strike starts to suffer, I always remind myself "Slow - Solid, then Fast - Far", few punchy shots later and the strike usually gets back to gold. I equate ball striking with hitting a nail with a hammer , shallow and towards target.

I'm a newer golfer, started last year with some rogue x irons which I'm still using. They are super strong lofted which was good as a newbie because new golfer spin lofts are generally much higher. Now that I'm starting to develop more of a proper swing and closing that swing loft window it's creating a huge gap between by wedges and irons. This video helped me connect the dots on why this is happening, much thanks.

This is a great explanation of spin loft and compression. The only thing I personally found missing is that what most teachers would call axis tilt from the discussion. Most amateurs have poor downswing path leading to out/in paths making it very difficult to have the necessary backwards lean (pelvis in front of spine) to achieve optimum compression. Like Ian said if you only attempt to hit down more (without lean away from target) you're just shifting the same spin loft further into the ground. Hope this turns the light bulb on for some of you

I’ve had this issue for ever. As a young man I had enough speed to get away with it, at 56 it became an issue that has to be addressed. I now have an old club with the Watson Hanger attached to it that stays next to my chair. Just picking that up and working with it here and there each day has made a huge impact. I’m fortunate to have easy access to an older simulator and my launch angle with a 7 iron averages 17* and my carry distance averages 175 yards.

Thank you for this explanation. I’ve been working on this all winter with my practice net. Not having a launch monitor, I marked my net which is 8’-6” away with various marks representing launch angle (simple trigonometry). Using a launch angle equal to half the loft, I have lowered it by 7*. My first visit to the driving range that just opened was an eye opener. Easily 1.5 club distance further. I’m attributing this to better compression of the ball because I don’t feel I’m swinging faster.

I’m 63 years old and been golfing for 33 of those years. I’ve only been doing this for the last two weeks of my life. It’s a game changer. Having to “pick” a ball off the surface requires hitting it so pure. It’s way to easy to hit fat or thin or even blade the ball resulting in disaster and complete inaccuracy in distance. Now I’m trapping the ball and feel like I can attack it more without concern of a mishit. The results are about ten more yards per club as well as more consistency. Finally!
