That was a lot of concrete.. and a lot of hard work in horrible weather! Kudos to you both! What was the cubic volume and how many barrow loads was it? Did the rain coming down after the concrete was barrowed cause you any issues?

Water cured concrete. That slab will be very strong, but with a horrible, weak finish layer, I would expect. If it is interior, it might be OK. On the floor level, you found asphalt under the house? Is that common? Are your 4x1 lumber actually 1 inch thick, or are they 3/4 inch thick like in the US? Will the difference in floor height/ concrete elevation create a coursing problem at the top of the door?
@SteveAndAlexBuild2 жыл бұрын
It’s slightly less than an inch . As for the door the bottom of the frame is a good 3 inch deep so no issues with that 🧱👍🏽

Hi I'm a brickie who builds houses and extensions. Just wondering why you cut the 1200 gauge DPM in the position you did. Building regs where I'm from states the DPM should go over the internal blockwork at dpc level go down 150mm across the cavity and be cut off 5mm back from the face of the external face brick!, This is your Radon gas barrier , the internal dpc is then bedded on top of the DPM (visqueen) . External skin has weep vents 2 courses below dpc.
@SteveAndAlexBuild2 жыл бұрын
That’s only needed if a gas membrane is required when there is contaminated ground . We didn’t need it 🧱👍🏽
@malcolmhaynes14242 жыл бұрын
@@SteveAndAlexBuild with respect, in Shropshire it's standard practice within the construction industry and county council that a basic radon barrier is installed! I know it's debatable putting one in but if an architect specifies one then that's how I do it. Shropshire is a granite area so perhaps that's the council's paradym of doing things
