Hi, I just wanted to share a warning with using Meguiars. I am absolutely a fan of the quality of their product, but I ran into an issue cleaning a pair of 2000 Dunk Highs. The grey/blue coloring of the conditioner will discolor and stain light colored stitching, sock liners, or the raw edge of leather panels. I contacted Meguiars product development team and they said that there is no dye in it, that the color is a natural byproduct of the different components of the mix. Just a fair warning to use it very sparingly and avoid letting it bleed. I've been cleaning my shoes and interiors like this for years- always good results other than stated. And it is possible to over saturate or strip color even with gentle products like Meguiars. Leather is like skin it needs moisture, but it also need to breathe. Always test in an inconspicuous area if you are unsure. Let everything air out overnight before putting them back in the box.

Sorry to bring up an old comment. I used Lexol Leather Conditioner and it did not strip any of my new Jordans except the 2016 Banned 1s. A bunch of red came off and stained my white towel. However, over time, less color would come off. I did not notice any difference in the shade of the leather after applying and would still recommend doing it.

Great video. This morning I hand washed my leather Tommy Hilfigher shoes as they were really dirty. I thought to use a car seat leather conditioned and now that's what I'm going to buy now! thanks a lot for showing us your conditioning process.

Good method 👍🏽.. I’ve been using mink oil the past 16+ years. Pretty much the same results+ waterproofing/stain resistant and it doesn’t make the leather shiny.

I use to be into the car scene pretty heavy. Meguiars over the years actually made the color on my leather seats, dashboard, headliner, floors and doors lose its color. Started to fade after years of using.

Kiwi and leather care products sold at supermarkets are all silicone based. in the long run it affects the material, mostly on real leather accessories. for nike products, whatever they resell on, i believe the leather isnt real? so probably using few times doesnt do something serious.

Good question. I usually just wipe it off with a microfiber towel. I should’ve included in this video now that you mention it but I needed more time like 3-6 months, possibly longer and I didn’t want to wait that long for a video. Thank you for the idea, will be making that. 👍👍

Do you prefer that leather cleaner versus Mink Oil?? Also do I have to worry about bleeding colors when applying leather conditioner? For instance I want to do my white toe box on my April SB Dunks. Do you think the blue from the dye might color bleed on the white leather if I condition? Or bleeding if putting White laces back on to a colored shoe?

So I bought a pair of Michigan State Reebok Questions (that released over 6 years ago!). And they weren't wrapped in plastic or anything to preserve the quality. They were just purchased and left in a box until I bought them. And the leather, is HARD AF!! I'm afraid if I put them on my feet that they will just break in half they are that hard (anyone who knows reebok questions, knows that they typically have the softest leather of any shoes). So I'm hoping by using this technique that I can hopefully restore them back to being at least wearable....because as of right now I just feel like they are more of a trophy piece, which is cool, but not the reason I bought them. Hell, I even considered throwing some Boveda Packs inside the shoes and then vacuum sealing the shoes in plastic wrap....but I'm afraid of what that might do to the rest of the shoe. Hopefully this works, thanks for sharing :) :).

I've picked up some Chemical Guys conditioner for my shoes. I tried a test run on my Air Max LtD3 All black all leather shoe. It came out pretty good, but the leather itself went from a softer/ more dull black tumble leather to a slightly darker hue. does the Maguires leave your shoes sticky kinda? Or leave them shiny? Does it darken the colors up? I'm jw cu I have a bunch of DS heat I want to keep nice but worry I'll change the color w certain conditioners. Mink oil darkens...so can't coconut oil....it's just rough. My stuff doesn't leave stickiness and seems okay, but I'm trying to find the BEST solution possible.
@GGtheRealest
@GGtheRealest 2 жыл бұрын
these conditioners shouldn't leave it sticky especially for the car seats if you're gonna be sitting on them but yeah. they might look darker because the conditioner reverses some of the dry fading in leathers. you can use aerospace spray also for your rubber soles too, but JUST the sides lol not the bottoms, and not armor all, that shit will make them sticky.

Great point. A while back when I was coming up with this video, I actually thought about that. I googled it and it came to this “Modern car leather upholstery has a super thin vinyl coating. This protection does not negate the need for regular care. While new manufacturing technologies mean that modern leather's durability has improved, your upholstery still needs regular cleaning and treatment.” So technically it’s still better than no conditioner though.
