The most important tip was Don’t rush when you’re painting and waiting for them to dry. I customized shoes Yesterday for the first time and used a hair dryer to dry them in 5 minutes and they just peeled off. Just because it looks and feels dry the next layer will just make it wet again and make it peel off. I did them again and waited at least 15 minutes between layers and there was a big difference . The color looked better and It felt more Solid.

This also is a problem when you aren't used to the paint/material; learning how it reacts to coats and the time needed to really let it settle down before working on it more avoid so many headaches in the future...

The way I've ALWAYS done commission turn around projections is: how long do you think it's gonna take you to do it? Tell your client you can't promise less than triple your projection, but it usually takes about double. So, if you think it's gonna take you one to two weeks, say "I can't promise anything sooner than 4-6 weeks, but it's usually only 2-3." This gives you PLENTY of buffer for if you need to order more paint, start-over from scratch, paint's drying slowly because it's a particularly wet week, whatever else; but means that you'll most frequently be able to give your client the product even sooner than they're hoping/expecting.

And they're not any old custom/basic shoes, they're super detailed with intricate designs and complex art. No stencils, nothing to aid my art, just the purity of the skill in my hand. How do we speed things up and become more efficient?

A good idea is to create a time frame to work on your project. For example, you could work on it for two hours every week, or whatever you want. What I used to do for things like that is I worked on it hours on end one day, then I tell myself I did enough work to last a while then never get back to my project. I also recommend working a couple times a week for shorter amounts of time rather than 1 or 2 amounts a week for more than an hour. It can make you get bored of whatever your working on.Hope this helped :)

I'm looking to paint my own tennis shoes, and a pair of shoes usually lasts me only 6 weeks at most before I've worn through the sole (I play a LOT of tennis). If the life of my shoe is that short, would you still recommend staying away from 'pens' due to their not lasting as long as the angelus paints? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Reminds me of someone who gave me a kid's white leather shoes back when I visited UAE. That person then proceeds to giving me Sharpies.ಥ‿ಥ Few days later, the kid complains because the designs I made faded away. I'm not surprised though. After two years, I decided to make that same kid custom shoes, now with the correct materials and tools 🤣 I am currently waiting for the tools I ordered to arrive.

Hi ! What is the best to use - Acrylic Finisher 600 or a Angelus 4 Coat for a Jeans material surface ? Thank you
@DeJesusCustomFootwear Жыл бұрын
Great question, you probably don’t even need a finisher for em unless they’re too glossy. In that case I might do the 4coat

You are AWSOME!!! By the way I was going to continue writing but accidentally hit the send button 😆. I’m customizing them for myself .

Hi :) im new to shoe customizing and i wanted to ask about the Angelus paint, over time does it crack and break off? and if it doesn't would you suggest investing in that paint if i am looking for the best option going forward with customizing?

Just started my customising business and your videos have been so helpful💪🏼 I wanted to ask what do posca pens not hold up on shoes because I’ve seen a few customisers using it?

I have Nike air tempo next% in black and white. I’d like them to be all black. Do you think it’s safe to paint the rubber foam heel/sole of the trainer or is it one of them scenarios where it’s better to not paint

When wanting to fix a mistake or just start over, What’s the max number of times you should use Acetone on a leather shoe?
@stevenmeansphotography386110 ай бұрын
You can for sure use a posca marker as long as you seal it

I don’t recommend them for long term durability, but if they work for you that’s all that matters!
