I've been watching your videos for over two months now. Just started my first "custom" and everything you've told me that could happen HAS happened. The pre-paint anxiety was REAL and prepping a shoe is literally every chore you've ever done in life that you never wanted to do. Thank you for the path.

The most important tip was Don’t rush when you’re painting and waiting for them to dry. I customized shoes Yesterday for the first time and used a hair dryer to dry them in 5 minutes and they just peeled off. Just because it looks and feels dry the next layer will just make it wet again and make it peel off. I did them again and waited at least 15 minutes between layers and there was a big difference . The color looked better and It felt more Solid.

This also is a problem when you aren't used to the paint/material; learning how it reacts to coats and the time needed to really let it settle down before working on it more avoid so many headaches in the future...

it dont matter how you dry it .you have to use acetone to clean the paint and sealer off that was alresdy on the shoe. .. then when your done painting you have to use a finisher to seal the paint

The way I've ALWAYS done commission turn around projections is: how long do you think it's gonna take you to do it? Tell your client you can't promise less than triple your projection, but it usually takes about double. So, if you think it's gonna take you one to two weeks, say "I can't promise anything sooner than 4-6 weeks, but it's usually only 2-3." This gives you PLENTY of buffer for if you need to order more paint, start-over from scratch, paint's drying slowly because it's a particularly wet week, whatever else; but means that you'll most frequently be able to give your client the product even sooner than they're hoping/expecting.

A good idea is to create a time frame to work on your project. For example, you could work on it for two hours every week, or whatever you want. What I used to do for things like that is I worked on it hours on end one day, then I tell myself I did enough work to last a while then never get back to my project. I also recommend working a couple times a week for shorter amounts of time rather than 1 or 2 amounts a week for more than an hour. It can make you get bored of whatever your working on.Hope this helped :)

Hi Dillon from the UK, great channel - the most concise one on YT :) Conc. painting different materials & additives; how would you do a Rainbow Fade on some AM IVO, the toebox & some of the sides is mesh & the toefront, lace section and paneling is leather. So would be spraying across 2 different materials
@DeJesusCustomFootwear

For something like that I would lay down the base colors using the appropriate mediums such as 2soft on the mesh. Then when doing the actual blend I would just paint the whole thing with the leather paint no additives

Another one 9/10 have a Classic Pair of Jordan Cement 3 Air force 1 best of both worlds edition. Stunned that the back tab is still white. The stock midsole is gloss was thinking of changing the color your opinion? I would leave them gloss if you did not see the little yellow inside.

@DeJesus Custom Footwear Lol I can't look at the yellow lol. Same with my Pure $ 3's. I have to get that back tab white. The partent leather part also a little yellow hopefully the Angelus Sole Sauce works for that.

I got pink paint on the sole on accident. How do you suggest cleaning it? I got most of it with the deglazer but it seems to still have pink tint. Thank you for the information!

Depends on where it is really but for the most part, you should be able to acetone it off.. if there’s still a tint you can try sanding some of it off

Love the info, but I'm a newbie and have a question. I'm looking to paint my own tennis shoes, and a pair of shoes usually lasts me only 6 weeks at most before I've worn through the sole (I play a LOT of tennis). If the life of my shoe is that short, would you still recommend staying away from 'pens' due to their not lasting as long as the angelus paints? Thanks for any advice you can give.
@DeJesusCustomFootwear
@DeJesusCustomFootwear 10 ай бұрын
I would say it depends on the design to some degree. For small little linework or doodles than pens might be perfect. If you're covering the entire shoe in anyway I would avoid em

Have you tried uv reactive paint? What’s the process of that? Do you have to put a coat on after you’re done? Or add any additive to that paint? I’ve never done this and I want to do it as a birthday present

Reminds me of someone who gave me a kid's white leather shoes back when I visited UAE. That person then proceeds to giving me Sharpies.ಥ‿ಥ Few days later, the kid complains because the designs I made faded away. I'm not surprised though. After two years, I decided to make that same kid custom shoes, now with the correct materials and tools 🤣 I am currently waiting for the tools I ordered to arrive.

Hi ! What is the best to use - Acrylic Finisher 600 or a Angelus 4 Coat for a Jeans material surface ? Thank you
