I have not long been called as the Ward Music Chairman and the video confirms how I have been conducting congregational hymn singing for many decades. 2 / 4 - start at the top, loop down for 1 (‘J’) and loop to the top for 2 and repeat the sequence (1, 2) 3 / 4 - start at the top, loop down across the chest for 1, straight across outwards for 2 and loop to the top for 3 and repeat the sequence ( 1, 2, 3 ) 4 / 4 - start at the top, straight down for 1, across the chest for 2, horizontally across for 3 and loop to the top for 4 and repeat the sequence (1, 2, 3, 4 ) Small loops can be introduced to avoid regimentation. These 1988 instructions contradict pages 234-235 in the church 1985 ‘Hymns’ book which show: 2 / 4 - start at the top, loop down for 1 (‘J’), and 2 on almost the same plane and then a rapid loop to the top and repeat the sequence (1, 2 ) 3 / 4 - start at the top, straight down for 1, straight across outwards for 2, and 3 is almost on the same plane and then a rapid loop to the top and repeat the sequence (1, 2, 3 ) 4 / 4 - start at the top, straight down for 1, across the chest for 2, horizontally across for 3 and 4 is almost on the same plane and then a rapid loop to the top and repeat the sequence (1, 2, 3, 4 ) I much prefer the video instructions and will continue to adhere to them despite any criticism from members who decline to take their turn to lead the congregational hymn singing.

Thank you My granddaughter got called to conduct. But had no instruction. It would have been quite embarrassing for her We just keep praying and practicing 🤣

LOL this is hilarious. Good old fashioned conducting... a lost art in a lot of Churches. Many song leaders butcher songs by not setting a good tempo and winging the starting pitch...

Why doesn't the bouncing ball match the best of the music? At the end of the hymns, the ball stops at least a half best before the music stops.
