Can anyone clarify...if I have a 12 word seed phrase of a wallet and I bought a new hardware wallet which is asking for a 24 word phrase to back up, can that 12 word seed phrase be used or should I buy a wallet which supports 12 words phrase

That is correct. You need a wallet that supports 12 or 24. Usually, hardware wallets use 24 words, while cold wallets use 12.

How does Trezor protect assets on Exodus wallet? Seems like it is absolutely separate and does not provide any security features to the Exodus assets

Thanks for your question. Upon creating an Exodus account, you are prompted to either recover, or create a new wallet. This is because Exodus is a wallet that requires a crypto seed phrase to open/maintain. With that being said, Trezor is also a wallet that gives you its own seed words. These are two separate companies but Exodus only gives you 12 words to save, and Trezor gives you 24, which is more secure, and is also completely offline, unlike Exodus. With that being said, you have the option to see your Trezor’s assets from your Exodus’ interface without having to find your physical Trezor and plug it in. Exodus is not protecting your Trezor’s assets nor the other way around. The only thing protecting your assets are the seed words of each wallet that you have. Exodus and Trezor made a partnership where you can view your Trezor’s assets straight from the Exodus wallet; which is awesome-but you will need your physical Trezor in order to move assets away from your Trezor, however, you don’t need your physical Trezor to deposit money on your Trezor, you can do so straight from the Exodus app. Hope that helps!

Security is definitely achievable with just a smartphone, but possibly not necessarily ideal. You don’t need a crazy expensive laptop to set up your hardware wallet. If you follow all the steps in this video you should be able to successfully set it up!
