How To Connect and control your A7III with the Weebill-S

Here's a quick tutorial on how to connect and control your sony A7III with the Zhiyun Weebill-S using the USB-C cable.

With Weebill update 2.04 you can now use your Sony A7III with the weebill S in USB mode, in the menu of the weebill, select "Sony USB"

Hello Friend! Here I want to leave my record of thanks for your clarification regarding this small adjustment so that it is possible to have access to the settings of Sony A7 III by WEEBILL-S. I was already on the 05/15/2021 date that I acquired my Gimbal, and I was not having access to the commands of the Camera, and also to find bada here in Brazil that solved this small problem. Tried it, it does work. Thank you. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. In fact great work around to be able to control the main camera functions. It also leave other mini USB port free to charge camera battery. The key is to ensure control smartphone is turned off on the camera menu. That stuffed me. In my case I thought it was off but it wasn’t. My apologies fir being a dumb arse.

Well, with all due respect, juste because you couldn't make it, doesn't mean it doesn't work. You obviously can see it does work in the video. You need to use the correct cable and set your sony A7III in PC Remote and your weebill in Panasonic mode, if it works with mine, there is no reason it doesn't work with yours. Thanks for the great help. I was trying a lot but the camera was not connecting. When I did it on Panasonic mode, my Sony alpha 7R iii Camera started functioning immediately.

@@rebeccageorge4662 well i couldnt tell you. It just only records on one SD, probably cause plugging this way is like being tethered to a pc, where you'd save files. Meaning no need to record on 2 sd cards and have 3 versions of the same thing. It's the only explanation i can give, a limitation by the camera

With the Sony A74 it is not working. The rec button only works for stoping the recording but not to start recording. Weird. Any ideas? Fixes?

Here is the note: 1. Please select "PC Remote" for your camera's "USB Connection". 2. If using electronic focusing, set the "zoom setting" into "on: Digital zoom" in the menu and set the photo format into "JPEG". 3. For Sony cameras, after connecting gimbal and camera with control cable, power on the gimbal and then the camera. Make sure the camera is fully charged. Try to unplug the cable and insert again if there is USB mode on the screen.

only one issue the gimbal batery charges camera battery itself so gimbal battery drains fast what is the solution

hey. great video. tell me. can you use the Gimbel to trigger a shot? I can't.. nothing what I tried helped. I switched the cables. started first camera then Gimbel and the other way. I can switch the settings like in your video. but when I am trying to make a panorama picture or any picture it won't work. the ap tells me I can see the pictures in the gallery. but my camera is not shooting. just getting into focus.

Hey there. Thx for watching! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to take pictures with this setup. This workaround is only to help in video mode (which zhiyun say is not possible in their manual, so i'ts already a great thing to be able to do it this way) but for photos you need to ask zhiyun to make an update to help us with that. Sorry! 😊

I can use this setup to access camera settings and start/stop video. I was able to get photos working by switching to the micro usb cable and changing the gimbal camera setting to Sony. I was really hoping I could get both to work with one setup :(

Parce que quand je connecte le câble du Weebill-S à la connexion USBC de mon A7III et que je règle le gimbal sur Panasonic, je n'obtiens pas les possibilités de réglages et mon A7III m'indique : "Mode USB - Connection au Stock de masse" puis "Vérifiez le périphérique connecté". Bonjour Olivier, il faut regler le sony sur PC remote, vous pouvez maintenant utiliser le cable multi et regler le weebill sur Panasonic, ca fonctionne désormais, plus besoin d'utiliser le câble usb-c. L'autre extrémité se branche sur le weebill S comle indiqué sur le manuel 😉. Bon courage

Parce que ça reste tel quel, pas changement sur l'écran du Weebill-S même en tournant la molette. Hey! According to the zhiyun compatbility list, no.. It's not in there. So you may have issues with controling the camera with the gimble. Although.. I don't own a zve10 so i can't tell you for sure. There's a guy on KZbin using that camera with the weebill s, you may wanna ask him instead, his name is "keith's place" Good luck!

With this option, you loose IBIS, you loose face detection and also you loose the ability to record on SD slot 2. So it’s not the best way.

There are no ideals solutions until Sony and Zhiyun work something out to give us compatibility. Until them it's only compromises, that's one alternative to have control of camera on the gimbal, if the drawbacks are too much for you, you're free to go back to the manual's recommended connexion :) cheers !

Hi there! I am running into issues where my gimbal recognizes the camera, but I can only use the zoom and the record features. I am unable to use the dial to change shutter speed nor am I ablw to see the functionality working on the gimbal interface. Any suggestions? Being able to change the values through my gimbal would be a game changer.

That's because you probably didn't use the correct cable, you need to use USB-C and not multi. Follow the steps in the video and in other videos in youtube by setting your weebill in Panasonic mode and your Sony A7III in PC Remote.

I dont see how this could harm the gimbal or the A7III (FYI, this is how you would connect your A7III to your PC to use it with Remote sony app) i think it's more of a patent issue, that zhiyun doesn't want to pay Sony to get full authorization to make their gimbals compatible, or they didn't agree on the terms of contract of something like that, but it's pure speculation, no official statement has been released about that. But you can be safe to plug it that way, no risk ;)

@@GuillaumeN Wow that was a quick response. Actually, after looking into it further I don't know if it's worth it to use the hack because of the other functions that are affected. The thing that changes the most for me are ISO and turning the variable ND filter. I have control wheel set to ISO so it's probably just as fast. Thanks again for the information.

@@GuillaumeN Yes, with firmware 2.04 you can control over the cable ISO, Aperture Value and Shutter speed. It does not work yet in application Zy Play when zhiyun image transmission module is used.

I have one point. When Ahiyun is connected by cable with sony a7 III, then files are going to only one card. I would like to have back up all the time, by putting files on both cards. Do you know how to get it ? Thank you.

Well i dont think it's possible. It's the drawback of using PC remote. If you really want to record on 2 cards and using the Weebill, you don't have the choice but to plug it in Multi and loose the camera control on the gimbal. With gimbal plugged in USB-C as PC remote, there is no more Simultaneous recording on the two SD cards (the option is greyd out in the sony)
