Great video. I'm still confused as to wiring the motors because the inputs in the servo documentation are A+ A- B+ B-. In the documentation for step and direction signals it says to use input A and B. How is that wired?

Awesome video :-) I was wondering how to connect the Servos with higher voltage than my board... It's pretty clear now, that they have a dedicated power source, separate to the board... Thanks for sharing this... :-)

Do the motors account for backlash when tuning or you still have to set backlash in mach3?

In a nut shell White: port1,pin2 Black: port1, pin3 Brown Yellow Orange:ground Green+5v Red:port1,pin10 Blue:port1,pin17. In Mach3 Motor Outputs X axis, Step Pin=3, Dir Pin=2. Input #1 is port1, pin 10. OEM Trigger#1 is port1, pin10. Output Signal, Enable1 is port1, pin17 I was so confused at first until I realized you were using the word “Port” in place of “Pin”. Once I let that go, I was able to fallow through the rest of the vid. Eventually got mine up and running. Can you comment on how you were able to look at the Clearpath manual and come to this conclusion. Even now knowing how to wire it up, I’m still confused by the manual. Thanks for getting me up and running!

Belay my last comment. I read somewhere that there is a problem with the setup for the SD. I had already did the auto tune and it was fine so I assumed it was right. After not getting any running of the motor I retried the setup and redid the step and direction. It now works with the C10. Dan

Thanks for this guide. I can vouch for anyone looking to build a similar system. If you follow this guide everything should work as expected. I just got done with my clearpath cnc build based off of the OX CNC Platform and I used similar Clearpath Motors and my machine is up and running and this is my first CNC build. The clearpaths and this video makes the process very easy. Thanks to Neo7CNC for his help.

This setup was running Win7 with Mach3. I'm using both a USB Smooth Stepper and AcornCNC with Win 10 now. The C10 boards just work with a printer port which I wanted to get away from (nothing wrong with it other than age). The USB Smooth Stepper and AcornCNC boards still speak step and direction signals just like the C10 allowed.

Great video! I am having an issue with one of my Clearpath Servos going into an error state (error #73 specifically). However, when it errors out, my machine continues to run (with one dead axis). This ruins my work piece! I'm wondering, if HLFB is properly configured, will it Feed Hold the motors if there is an internal fault on the motor, and not an external fault such as a limit switch, crash, over-torque, etc?

Hi, still struggling with these... First off the setup Program doesn`t complete... it just stops at 41 % on all motors. secondly and quite odd: the smallest Servo has lots of torque, one cannot force it to stopby hand, while the bigger one on x can be stopped using your bare hands on the spindle?? I hope this is just due the fact of the setup not beeing completed? Anyone can describe how the setup did take place once started? Did your motors jerk/squeel, accel and decel right from the biginning.. or did they keep relatively quiet till aprox half the setup time? Mine do just some very faint noises like sorta sparkling water in a bottle and a bit of sqeeking ... than nothing.. Any help would be greatly apreciated. flo

The auto-tune seems to start and does something apparently (very quiet/ no move detectable but some barely audible squeels) until 41% of the tuneing process. then it remains at 41% ... i waitet 30 mins no change. same on all axs, tried different pc - same... Any idea? greets Flo

Hi, I am a hobby guy that also loves cnc machines. I have built for my shop a mill and a small router. I always wanted to convert my router from steppers to servos and I am doing that now. The problem is that the change requires a big money that I don’t have and I am trying to build my own servo motors from DC motors . My question is: Could I use this C10 board with any quadrature servo motors or they need to be those special from Neo7CNC ? thanks

New to all this CNC build, but will a USB to 24 pin parallel port cable work with the C10 board.
@Neo7CNC
@Neo7CNC 7 жыл бұрын
The way the standard printer port "talks" will not allow that to work. To get away from the need for the printer port you could use a board called a USB smooth stepper. Does the same function (and more) but communicates with USB. There's an Ethernet version too. Thanks for the question.

Hi, When you tell the machine to move 1 inch, are they using the built in encoders for that? and are they dead on?
@mytuberforyou
@mytuberforyou 6 жыл бұрын
No, the 1 inch is from the Mach setup, counts per revolution multiplied by leadscrew pitch gives counts per inch or CPI, it's under Mach/ Motor Tuning screen.

You are not alone. If the instructor would quit trying to OVER explain EVERY single thought that comes into his mind, just maybe he could make this simple. As it is, he OVER teaches, detours frequently, and never "Cuts to the chase". Thus many of us get confused. Sadly, this is a VERY common malady on MOST KZbin videos. Also, this instructor uses an innate monotone rhetoric; and after a while many of us just cant take it any longer; because it becomes boring and irritating. It is tantamount to trying to hear a person read a telephone directory; and with each new number; he tries to tell the life story of each subscriber; as thoughwe were dying to know it. Oh indeed yes. Finally; this instructor has never learned the old axiom; that "Less is more" when teaching. For the brain is NOT a computer. We need it slower but simple. It can be done. Watch Norm Abram on the "New Yankee Workshop". He can teach a novice how to build a complex wooden device in 18 minutes from start to finish. Oh yes. His producer Mr Morach would fire him if he did what MOST You-Tuber's do. Oh well.

Thank you for the video. I am building a CNC router using the Clearpath servo's and I want to construct my own power and data cables. I cant tell and I cant locate what cable is necessary for data and power. I think the data cable is 22AWG/8 conductor shielded(?) and the power cable looks like its only 2 conductor. Can you check this fore me? Thank you.

This "new stuff" Is amazing me. I last ran a monster 1992, 516 Shoda twin table 4mains w/4 pigs w/Fanuc 18 controls and Bobcad CAD/CAM in 2008. Needless to say the how controls have shrunk and ease of set up step vs servo's is bowing my mind. I now want to build a 6'x12' capacity w/tool changer....no wonder the mkt. for used commercial units have crashed.

Thank you, I’m new to all this. If you will educate me on this, when he says. “The yellow and the brown are connected together and put into the common.” What is the common mean? I am not using a C10 board I am using the C25S - SMOOTH STEPPER TERMINAL BOARD, having trouble figuring out which wires go into which port. From what I have figured out the green wire is 5v but what does the other wires go. I am using a add on break out board for my Ethernet Smooth Stepper. Sorry for the trouble, unable to find any info on these connections.

It looks like you can attach a smooth stepper directly to it, so with that added, there shouldn't be an issue. Looks like you''d need the C32 as well as a Smooth Stepper. Double check with the vendor before spending the $$ though. Thanks for watching.
