Hello. YOur video is very interesting and useful. I would like to ask you about after recording use. How can I download the video material, in particular, how to swith the Western Digital external hard drive to be able to download and then import in editing programme? I have tomos ATOMDCK003 Docking Station. Will be Ok to connect via it? Thank you very much fro your tiem and kind answer beforehand

Yes, you have to use a DOCKING STATION. Simple SATA to USB or USBc ill work. Lots of them on amazon to buy. Makes the footage transfer easy!

I just got this Ninja monitor and had no idea I also had to get all these accessories just to use it! For something that cost $300 to $400 some of those accessories should have been included with the unit. But, good tutorial anyway! 👍🏾 Question?? Can I use this monitor with and old mini DV tape GL2 camcorder?
@gemwebb Жыл бұрын
Glad I could help! If the GL2 camcorder has an HDMI out, I'd try it. Unsure if analogue connectors to HDMI would wok as monitor requires digital signal.

Do you still need a SD card in your camera? Or does the SSD save all the footage?
@gemwebb2 жыл бұрын
That's a really good question! I don't think u need anything in the camera. As once you press record on Ninja, you be recording in PRORes or other compression format if u bought it and installed it. It's so super easy to get footage off of the SSD also with amazing SSD cable. So quick.

Do you need to connect a camera prior to formatting a new ssd?
@Poepopdestoep Жыл бұрын
No, formatting is done in the Atomos
@gemwebb23 күн бұрын
Nope, all formatting is completed by the Atomos monitor.

Great video. Do you think the Ninja V monitor and the hard drive could be used with a GoPro Hero Camera and can it record footage from GoPro onto the SATA SSD when using a GoPro for Projects?
@gemwebb Жыл бұрын
Wow, that's super creative and would be a fun experiment. If your GoPro has hdmi out, I'd try it! Record in ProRes 4:2:2! The record button on your GoPro would not have to control NinjaV as it has record controls for the SSD. Try it and let me know!

Hello Gem! Why did you buy NINJA V instead ATOMOS shinobi? Do you really use 12 bit? I just want to understand what to buy for my FX3 :/
@gemwebb11 ай бұрын
I owned a Shinobi and the screen went in 2 weeks so sent it back and bought the best. I also thought I'd use the PRORes of the SSD hard drive but did not to date. So honestly, u are good with a more affordable monitor if in learning phase of first 2 years.

Yes, you can still record primarily on your camera and just use the monitor for viewing

Pretty nice! Have you noticed any drawbacks with third-party SSDs since the posting of this video? I've heard something along the lines of not being able to record 10-bit when using external SSDs or something along those lines.
@ken_sparrow Жыл бұрын
That sounds a bit silly if that's actually happening. SSDs like to go way faster than any file transfer or recording process is capable of using, all for the sake of marketing and "future proofing"
@Potchekansky Жыл бұрын
@@ken_sparrow that's true, however SSD technology is pretty complex and varies from SSD to SSD. For example an SSD that has a larger storage capacity will have better speeds than the same SSD but with lower storage capacity. Additionally probably 80% of the SSDs have sort of a burst speed that goes down over time. If you were to transfer a file of 4 GB, you will get high speed in the beginning that will gradually slow down. Having this in mind, monitor manufacturers could be capping monitor recording (on third-party SSDs) to lower bitrate in order to avoid any possible issues and angry customers. Hence why Atomos manufacture their own SSDs to be used with their monitors. Apologies for the wall of text.
@noth606 Жыл бұрын
@@Potchekansky Ehm, fairly sure Atomos does not make SSD's LOL, they may sell branded SSD's but that is a million miles from actually making them. SSD tech as it is typically done inherently has faster transfer initially on a large file, they use cache, just like every more advanced storage system does. The cache has a limit, and beyond just that there are a multitude of other factors at play, such as fragmentation, channel/chip allocation and so on forth.
@gemwebb2 ай бұрын
I have so many different brand SSDs as I buy the best and it changes year to year. I've actually never had a hardwire failure and buying my first 8TB today to backup main 4TB video library.
@Potchekansky2 ай бұрын
@@gemwebb I wouldn’t recommend getting an SSD for long term storage. You’d want a mechanical HDD, because it has a mechanical disk inside that’s the actual storage. If something goes wrong with the external drive - you can get your data back from the HDD but if it’s an SSD - there’s no recovery. (Because of no spinning disk) Sorry for the unsolicited advice.
