@Having Fun the Blackmagic costs twice as much here in Canada and the Ninja V does everything I want. Don’t know if that makes me a genius, but it was certainly the better decision.

I agree with all points! It also alleviates the 30 minute recording time restrictions on cameras such as the Canon R6, it helps save on buying expensive C-fast cards for longer shooting days, it can be used for redundant recording for some cameras with only one card slot, it enables cameras that do not have the excellent internal video tools of cameras such as the Panasonic GH5/S1H to gain the most essential of them to aid recording! It can be used a a playing device, a rough clip editing and clip logging aid without the need of a computer (handy for killing dead time while travelling). It also, with the aid of a cage and handle, gives a camera a nice weight for aiding handheld shooting! For me, it has become a standard part of any rig I use!🙏🏾

That's what I would always do, plug the mic into the camera - I only found out by accident that you get much higher quality plugging it directly to Ninja V. You have to adjust the frame rate delay on Ninja V - it varies from cameras to camera (2 frames on Sony but 7 frames on Nikon)

Hi Pav :) I'm really liking my Ninja V as well. I think there is one limitation, and for most it isn't even a consideration for them. The Ninja V cannot do HDMI 2.01 Spec. What this means is we're going to need an actual Ninja MK II updated Monitor/Recorder which has HDMI 2.01 so 8K resolution capture in H265, ProRes RAW HQ, and Avid DNxHRQ 8K can be possible. An even brighter screen of 1500 to 2000 Nits would also be preferable for viewing in direct sunlight. Even with the Ninja V's 1,000 Nit screen brightness, it is still difficult to adequately view the screen in direct sunlight without a screen hood.

Excuse me, but the audio comparison of the preamps seems flawed IMHO. I noticed at 6:22 (camera) that the lav mic is further away from your mouth than at 6:26 (Ninja V). This demonstrates the effect of lav mic placement, NOT the quality of the preamps. I'm really curious about the quality of the Ninja V preamps. Thank you!
@PavSZ
@PavSZ 2 жыл бұрын
The mic is only slightly higher when recording to nInja V in my example but the tone is completely different. This is not difference in the position of the mic. Dumb question....24 years shooting 35mm and Super16 am just now starting to shoot digitally. I have paired my GH5 with the Ninja monitor recorder. Does the Ninja do traditional video playback after a few takes? And if it does are the colors and contrast the way a i saw it live? Or is the playback all washed out?? Thanks!!!
@Fotomensch
@Fotomensch 2 жыл бұрын
The Video on the playback should look exactly the way it looked on the screen when you recorded it. If you use a LUT to preview the look you might want to get, it will also be applied to the playback on the recorder, when you play it. But it will look neutral/how it looks without the LUT when you take the file and watch it e.g. on your PC. (Unless you have lut burn in selected, which I would not recommend)

it does not bypass your camera recording format. It will record in the same frame rate and colour profile that you set in the camera (but in quicktime proRes (or DNx)) It records to SSD drive - I connect it directly to my mac and edit from it (or move the files to another external drive (if I have to)). haven't bought a ninja (yet) but maybe has to do with different cameras recording audio differently. some prosumer cameras dont spend the development money on audio, assuming people will use a dedicated recorder, so they send those savings to you on the camera price. also check that the audio settings on the ninja are correct. again I dont own one but there maybe adjustable data settings.

If your canon can output clean video over HDMI then Ninja V will work with it fine.
