How to connect to EC2 w/ PuTTY (Windows)

This video will show how to use a PuTTY private key to connect to your Amazon EC2 Linux instance.
Prior to this, we were using ssh on the OS X terminal and our .pem key file in order to connect. However, that didn't work for our Windows users because .pem files are used with ssl (openssl). We will show you how to download all the PuTTY tools needed, create your private key, connect to your instance, and also how to connect to your instance without an SSH key.

Fantastic and clear explanation - an online AWS tutorial stopped me in my tracks when it said "Windows users won't have SSH installed, but you can use something like PuTTY" and then proceeded to go ahead using SSH, leaving any Windows users dangling (at least those unfamiliar with PuTTY). This video fixed me up in, well, less than 5 minutes.

Nice tutorial, very well explained and straightforward. Came here to encourage people to stay away from Putty and save yourself the headaches. If you are on Windows 10 you could just install the standard SSH tool, and connect to your instance with the .pem key, with the same ssh command you'd use for a Linux or Mac.

@@knowledgelover2736 don't think you ever need to install after all. Windows 10 should include powershell. I run it in Admin mode and execute the ssh command
