Lifesaver! I am running a 2022 MacBook Pro, and this hack still works great! For anyone who only has one of the dongle‘s… You can plug one HDMI cable directly into the MacBook Pro, and the other one plugged into the dongle and that will also extend both screens (not duplicate). And if necessary, you can open the MacBook Pro and have three screens. Thanks again! Very concise, very informative and no fluff!

@@1012bela Yes mine has more than one port (actually I'm lucky, the 16" has four USB-C ports). Unfortunately each port only supports one external monitor, so even if you plug a dongle into a port that has more than one extension port, it will still only support one monitor. Hope this helps. Cheers!

@@1012bela Yes, I have 1 MacBook Pro with 2 USB-C ports on the left and 1 USB-C port and an hdmi port on the right. The hdmi cord attaches the right screen to the right side of the Mac. Helpful video. Thanks. The Satechi USB - C Dual Multimedia adapter means you don't need 2 dongles ( docks) or a dongle ( dock) and a separate HDMI / USB C connector to another port. The Satechi Dual Multimedia has a dual plug that plugs into the 2 usb c ports in the mac and this dongle has 2 HDMI ports in it for your monitors to plug straight into. It also has the SD and micro sd card slots ethernet port and usb c port so you can power on. Its a tad more expensive at around $170 AUD.

Hi thanks for watching. Actually one that I use is old so I couldn't find a link to it. Actually I think as long as it has a USB-C port to plug into your mac, and has an hdmi port to accept the hdmi cable from your monitor, I see no reason why it won't work. They key thing I think (and technically I do not know why this is) is that you need a separate dongle per monitor, it won't work if you try and put two monitors through one dongle. With regard to the monitors, yes I will do that in the future. I couldn't even tell you what I have at the moment as I am moving house and they are all packed away!
@bradyf83513 жыл бұрын
I don't know if this will work for others. while watching this I had an idea like I was using linux workspace. (off topic sorry ) SO Another way that might help others. open settings, click -display, then at the top there will be different categories i.e. -display -arrange -colour -nightshift. Click -arrange. IN that yow will see a box depicting your device display and any other connected monitors. Theres a box that says "mirror" un-click that and it should set up as 3 - as many ports as you can squeeze in!! This mad my day as it brings me my linux productivity of having diff workspaces but still having my loved Mac operating system

Mmm wish I'd seen this before I bought my dual HDMI adapter!!! 🙄It's annoying but thanks to you I know I can't do anything about it and will go ahead and use the dongle I already have for the 2nd external monitor. Thanks for the vid. No fuss and straight to the point.

Thank you! It sucks to have to use two different adapters, but I’m glad I can work with multiple monitors now!

Great video! As an alternative, if you don't need the extra ports from the dongle, I was able to just connect two USB-C to HDMI wires from my Macbook Pro to each monitor and it worked (avoiding the dongles).

Yes they weren't available at the time of making the video, but yes they are a good option!

for less cords you can buy the apple usbc digital av adapter and use the hdmi port on the apple adapter with your hdmi cord to one monitor and use a hdmi to uscc to the usb c port on the apple adapter and hdmi into the second monitor, entire process requires two cords (hdmi, hdmi to usbc) and one adapter (apple usbc digital av adapter)
