Today is August 21, 2022. I hadn't used my blu-ray DVD player in a couple of years. Everything is streamed nowadays. However, I decided to rent a video from RedBox today. Got the DVD home and totally forgot how to hook up the cords to the Blu-Ray. I watched a few KZbin videos but ONLY your video simplified the hook up by suggesting to hook my HDMI cord to the TV. And BAM! Came on in an instant! Thank you for being the brains of technology.

Hi, My VCR/DVD Recorder has both component out and HDMI out connections on the back of the unit. Could you tell me if both of these connections serve the exact same function or do they do something different from one another? What if my TV has only 1 HDMI port and it is already taken up by my cable box? Would using a splitter for that port on the TV work the same? Or running the HDMI cable from the blu-ray to the cable box? I'm not sure that last is even an option...I'll have to go look at my cable box to be sure.

You would go through the same process for the Satellite box as you would the Blu- ray player. See what options (HDMI, component video) both the TV and Satellite boxes have in common. If it is not a high definition (HD) satellite box, your only option might be composite video and audio (yellow, red and white RCAs).

CablesToGo my dad has his Dish Network box connected to his HDMI 1 plugin and has his bluray box plugged into the HDMI 2 plugin on back of the hdtv. What does he need to do with the remote ( which remote...hdtv or Dish ) to get the bluray player to play his bluray movies?

budjeepman First, you would need to use the HDTV remote (or possibly the Dish remote if HDTV has been programmed for the remote) to switch the TV to the HDMI 2 input. Then, you would need to use the Blu-Ray remote to turn on the Blu-Ray player and play the movie. If you want to be able to control the Blu-Ray via the Dish remote, you would need to consult the correct manual for the Dish remote (www.mydish.com/support/remote-control-manual). The section in the manual should be called “Programming Remote to Control Another Device.”

I hooked it up with no problem. Put the blue ray disc in and it plays the previews fine, with sound. When it comes to actually start the movie....I push play and the screen says This Operation is Currently Prohibited with this Disc. What's wrong?

First make sure the tv is on the correct settings. If that doesn't work unplug cable turn off the tv and blu-ray. Then plug back in after 30 seconds and turn on tv(check the settings) and then the blu-ray, that should solve the problem.

Jack Offerman Tried that, no I have no sound/pic, but the Samsung logo does appear for like, 1 second before going back to no signal - I'm on the correct hdmi/dvi input, but don't know Jack about any other settings, I have no manual for the tv. In the meantime I'll keep screwing w/it. Perhaps my lg is about to blow...

Shara Michaels Ok, unplug everything cable and the power cords for a few minutes. Then plug tv power back in and connect cable to tv, turn tv on. Then connect cable to blu ray and power it up, make sure the tv is on the right settings. If that doesn't work it may be the cable. You might be able to find manual on LG site. Hope this helps

I hooked my dvd player to the TV by way of the red, blue, and green cables I keep getting this blue color over the picture. When I disconnect the blue cable the blue tint goes away but I still don't get a color picture it keeps showing in black & white. Do you know why is that? I'm stumped.

It sounds like it could be a setting on the DVD player. Check out this forum that sounds like the issue that you are having www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/home-video/115469.html. If that does not help, try a different component source device (such as cable box, satellite box, Blu-ray, etc) to see if it has the same problems. If another source does have the same problem, it could be something with the TV or the component cable that you are using.

No offence but I'm not a bright person I learned that with Nintendo when I was 5. I'm just being sarcastic lol. I recently bought a 4K HDR tv and was told there would be a adapter...there wasn't. Its just all HDMI and USB. I have around 10 retro game systems that use component or composite. So i looked around I cannot find much. I need a composite or component to HDMI than plug the hdmi to tv. All I see is these HDMI connected to super short component/comisite cordes to plug into something. ...but i need the cord from my game systems to plug into a hdmi converter. I wish I could send a pic to bettter explan. Any advise would be appreciated
