How to Conquer THE DEPTHS. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Hey guys,
Today I'm posting a video on how to make The Depths an easy experience. There is a lot to go over so I did my best to condense it into a small video. In this video you will get all the tips and tricks of someone who spent two full days of gameplay underneath. I go over everything that is needed to conquer the darkness. Everything from shinning light all the way to the infinite loot. As a bonus I show you how to get one of better armors for this area at the very end of the video. This took a very long time to edit and put together for you all, so hopefully you can grab some knowledge from it.

great guide but you forgot to mention or didn't notice it yet but the light roots are underneath shrines so if you find a shrine at the normal world the light root is exacly below in the depths so you can use that to mark its location on you map and navigate directly to light roots you haven't found yet

The Depths is the is the “secret sauce” of Tears of the Kingdom. There was no mentioning till we all started playing it. In all the promos showed more of the surface and skies, very little of the Depths. Favorite area of the game

Before i started exploring the depths, i first did the master sword quest, collect all the regional companions including the contruct companion, made sure i had plenty of arrows. And plenty of sundalions made into meals in case i need to restore my hearts without having to go to a light root. Apparently when you over prepare, you typically slaughter half of all the enemies in the depths

FYI, the little Frox in the depth eat lit up brightbloom seeds. So if it gets dark all the sudden after you threw or shot activated a seed, you know why.

Not sure if it someone said already, but it helped me a lot to switch between surface and depths map. Especially with water areas at the surface, they'll be black in the depths without a proper way to blindly navigate. I usually put markers down and follow them to easily navigate in the dark

How do you get past rivers in the depths? I'm tryna get to the islands around Hyrule Castle because there's a shrine (and a lightroot) on one of them, but you can't past the walls that surround the water, so how do you get there? Can you just not get there?

@@aaronburg3579 I build planes or boats with the Autobuilder Ability. Also I use rocket shields and glide across if I can.

Great guide, if you explore in the dark at first, small groups of blue souls indicates lowest point on the ground in the nearby area, single blue soul indicates the highest point that can be reached; Single or double blueish red souls indicates there’s a chest or quest related content nearby. If there’s river on the surface, surrounding a zone, in order to explore the zone across the river on the surface, you have to dive down via another area. Once down there, there’s always a yiga camp nearby as explained in the video and a note on the table explaining how the depth works. once lighted up a new area, remember to check each named forest , big bone sites(similar to abandoned mines always with one chest but have to fly low enough to have the names shown and marked on the map) and stable location on the surface while exploring in the depth. Check out solid Brown color sites on the map , small circles are free parts supply, big circles are boss fights with rewards.

It takes many many hours to get EVERY light root. It's well worth the effort though because it makes item farming and exploring more fun. Make sure to mark all the spots you find stal horses for future reference. I like to use the icon that looks like a person next to the pot icon to mark horses. Marking all the bomb flower clusters that have two or more bomb flowers will make your life easier as well. I wouldn't waste icons on muddlebud and puff shrooms.

@@Khaathus I've roamed the depths for tens of hours already and still haven't been everywhere. I wanted to light everything up first and it was quite a grind to do so. Autobuilding balloons will be your best friend in the beginning of this task.

@@ashwilliams3859 Yeah, the depths is a slow process for sure. I use the balloons a little too. I found that the holes around sky towers are used by dragons at certain times, so I dive in with them and ride their backs around to get to different areas as well. They seem to spawn early and late. So around 5am and 11pm. I’m still mapping out their times.

stalhorses can't go up or down steep terrain and gliders take up too much battery, are hard to maneuver, and eventually despawn. use a hoverbike and throw a giant brightbloom on the front for a cheap spotlight that doesn't take up battery or weigh you down. remember to hit the bike to turn it off as soon as you throw on the brightbloom so it doesn't fly off without you. if you crash and your bike bounces super far away just use recall to see where it went or even just bring it back to where you are

@@Khaathus sure, but kind of wasteful yeah? i tend to save my rocket shields for combat. you can explore whole sections of the depths with a hoverbike, just get up high until you can see all the lightroots and go get em

@@Khaathus whereas i almost never have rockets 😂 everybody has a different play style and totk is definitely made to let people do things their own way. i don't like exploring on the ground when I can't see far ahead of me, so I get up in the air and get all the lightroots in an area first, but I think plenty of people like the tension of working their way across the rough terrain without being able to see.

I took my sweet time and braved the Depths only on foot (or skeleton horse, but that was more like rare). But what I´ve used was plain cart, balloon, wood and flint. Sometimes the verticality was insane. And I enjoyed that! I was impressed they managed to make TOTAL darkness, when cranking up the brightness didn´t help at all! Scary, treacherous with advanced darkness! The weakest aspect is the sky region in my honest opinion, but I got that air scooter contraption, so it shouldn´t be a problem now.

Great video. Lots of research done. I didn't get to read all the comments so sorry if I am repeating what others have said. Yes you mentioned the statues point to another statue and that leads somewhere nice. The statue's species also determines where you are in the world. Zora's are near the Zora domain, Gorons near the Gorons, Gerudos near the Gerudos, Ritos near the Ritos, etc. Next, the "fallen soldiers" give you weapons that are NOT decayed. That is important distinction because almost all metal weapons you find are rusted/decayed. Now if you break them, there will be a fallen soldier spawning in the Depths with that weapon but undecayed. So example: Find a nice Royal Claymore but it is decayed, even if you take them to the Rock Octorok to spit out. They gain buffs from the Rock Octoroks but still decayed. But if you break that weapon and then explore the depths where you found that weapon, you'll likely see a fallen soldier holding a UNdecayed Royal Claymore.

Glad it helped. There are multiple ways into the depths all over the map and I would suggest going into any hole that you see. This way you can dive in and grab a Light Root that is close to the hole to open up the depths map a little easier.

Another tips for lazy players like me. If you're tired of looking for this structure (9:39) you can go to your map and then select the point the cursor (whatever you call it) to the shrine and then click it and select travel.

I noped out of there so fast when I went under the Deku tree and the Gloom Hands chased me back up the wall😂😂The Typhlo ruins in BotW were scary enough now we have an entire dark map with gloom enemies. Nope, nope noooppeee lol. Even when trying to light all the roots down there I can never discover things in peace lol I made a few sunny meals but now I have no arrows

I am pretty far into the main quest and have pretty much avoided the underworld unless I needed something specific. I blew through 224 arrows so fast it was crazy. That’s the only downfall I found.

Get into Lynel farming. I got 999 brightblooms first, because they’re everywhere in the caves, the 2ND thing i got was 999 arrows.. mostly from the lynels.. not to mention their other great drops 🦁. It all goes hand in hand. Also learning how to parry, dodge and flurry rush the Lynels is some of the funnest gameplay ever 😄

I want you to geuse which hole i went down. So i found this hole after exploring some non bubbol caves and at first like i said died from fall damage, then the next time i somehow survived. There were crazy useless rotating lazers and also two goofy yigas on motorcyles!! I landed in this yard of spikes so i didnt have to get paraglide. I discovered that the yigas whoke body is critical and also unlocked the house you mentioned. Idk what scroll i got but i grabbed those and found another rad yiga whoch litterally was too fast to come in the outer yard. After defeating him, i went foward and found some medium poes on a tree on the center and then found some super fire flies. I went through a thiner valley and found some evil creepy cursed malice bokoblins which had a large stone srounded by zonite. Passing the valley i compared one of the shrines on the surface too a place undergrounda and found the lightroot. I went back tk the valley and proceded to find some mini frox and killed them for zonite. Ig i found on of those soldiers too but didnt really take his weapon. Fianlly i found a giant group of poes. Idk i lost some detail but its near the start.

​@@Khaathus man the depths are really cool but just today I reached death mountain undergrounds because I spotted a lighttroot, and I got some huge disadvantages. I first got suepr heated on suprise becuase seconds ago he wasn't hot. But luckily I knew about fire potions so I made them in a cooking spree. Unluckily I thought it was level one fire but I drank the level one and was still burning. I had to drink my level 2 to survive and am now potionles😢!!! And it even removed my light dam I shiuld do the story by now

I’m sure they do or some lore master could tell you in the future with a video. So far I’ve come across some missions that just talk about an ancient civilization that once existed in the depths. I haven’t found more than that. Right now all I see are old structures like mines and statues.

@@AR_112 I haven’t completed the main story yet. I’ve been goofing off and making stupid builds to be honest haha. But I’m sure you can do the 4 temples, grab all the memories and fight Gannon without ever having to go below. There is only a couple missions that tell you to go underneath. I’m sure those missions are there to show you the depths and spark interest so you will explore it later on.

Yeah it’s different for sure. I kind of enjoyed it because I’m a big Dark Souls guy so it kind of reminded me from something out of that world instead.

Unpopular opinion: This game has incredibly poor game design, the loop, forced hardcore mode essentially in the depths, wings disappearing and just the placement of alot of important set pieces. It has alot of intresting mechanics but they obviously had little idea of the actual game, thats probably why progression is a scattered mess

I can agree with you a little. I think you're valid in your opinion. I still thoroughly enjoy the game for what it is though.
