How to control XYFX W/Knobs on MPC Live or X

For the longest time i always wanted to control my XYFX with the knobs and also record them in. Here is the way i do it step by step, enjoy and stay safe.

FYI, JB, you can a) delete automation using the erase function, b) overwrite it to change or negate the effect of any automation recorded in a previous pass, or c) edit the automation data in detail using the list editor. i tried the list edittor way, i might be doing something wrong, but it doesnt work. i just do the erase function like you said. or in grid edittor, you can select to view automation/inserts at the bottom and delete with the eraser

@@MrCosmicVictory I don't use the list editor myself-it's not my idea of a fun or efficient workflow-but I know "mpc head" has a video covering this stuff. From what I understand, you *can't* simply erase automation using the list editor, but you *can* fine-tune all the movements that you recorded there. Next I want to learn if there's a way to record automation on multiple tracks at once, like tape stopping the whole song or getting that chopped and screwed sound on every track for example.

That’s dope, I’ve been wanting to know if you could do that. Also, with automations I’ve used in the past. If you mess up the automation you can hit play record and make sure you have the write automation button on and overwrite the automation. So have the write on so you can be right on, lol

Thank for the quick video. I was here to see if it was possible to assign the XY to insert FX (Example: Frequency shifter or something else besides the filters and delays). I guess its possible to automate the q-links but i was just wondering if it was possible.

thats a dope way! i actually programmed it on a midi controller too with midi learn, but the x/y i put on the same knob so its not as flexible. the part that makes me hesitate the qlink way, for some reason the qlinks i program dont save, even if i save and restart the song, i always have to reprogram the custom qlinks. btw, i found a way to edit the automation in the grid edittor, at the bottom where it usually says "velocity", you can select the automation down there too and delete stuff with the eraser. its weird how it works though, i havent mastered that yet

Erase automation quickly go to sequencer tab tap pencil icon Find erase Switch it from pad erase to automation You'll see options there

You would convert your song into one long sequence and go from there if you want to work from the main screen, and yes you can use the xy like this in song mode.

You can also just assign it like any other effect. It's in the normal effects list and shows up on the qlink parameters like everything else

and checking 'momentary' makes the q link snap back to 0 when you release so you don't have to twist it back

is there an external xy pad midi controller that can be assigned to the XY effect so you don't have to have it up all the time? The qlink thing is cool but I would rather have an XY controller.= at all times no matter what screen i'm on.
