This Garage conversion step by step video is a must watch for anyone wanting to convert their garage into living space. In the second episode of my garage conversion series I show you how the builders locate my existing sewage pipe to later connect my new drainage pipe for my new bathroom. Then the concrete cutters come on site to cut the concrete on the driveway and the concrete garage floor. Once done the drain layers dug out a trench to lay the new drain and connect it the the exisiting council sewage pipe. They add drainage metal to cover the trench and reinforce the concrete with steel before closing it.

I wish we had those sweet contractor vans in the US. I would literally drive that myself as a daily. That thing is awesome.

I would start by calling an architect and a plumber/drain layer and run your idea past them

This is super helpful. Thank you for this! I had a couple of questions: - How much did it cost to get the plans from the architect, lodge the proposal to the council and get it all approved? (In your last video you said it was about $5K?) - How much did it cost so far to do the Concrete cutting and drainage bits?

I’m glad it helps. I wish this was up a year ago because it would have given me more clarity. Architect fees were just slightly under 5k. About 2k to lodge to the council and I think another 2.5k once approved. Everything you saw in this video cost 10k. Concrete alone was 1850 plus labour

Hey Aaron, did you have to apply for build consent to add a bathroom? Also, any reason why you did not add a kitchenette? Great work, thanks

Yes we applied for building consent. From memory I would have needed to apply for resource consent if I was to add a kitchenette and the cost was a lot higher.
