How to Convert a Table saw from 120v to 240v

Here's a quick how-to video for converting a table saw from 120v to 120v. the method I use makes it easy to switch back to 120 if you need to bring your saw to a job site.

Exactly what I needed! Just picked up the same saw and was wondering if I really needed to rewire it or if I could just make an adapter cord like this, so this video was perfect. Already got a 240v outlet in the garage and I've always been iffy after hearing how many problems the motors on these saws have had. 240 will put my mind at ease.

The best bet is to always refer to the user manual for your specific model. I can say I've never come across one that didn't require something to be done at the saw even if it's as straightforward as flipping a switch behind a cover plate. In a lot of newer models, there's just a switch on the motor that you can use to go from 120v to 240v.

What cable ends did you use when you made your custom cable? I want to do the same but all the female ends for the 110 plug coming from the saw are only rated for 15 amps at 110. Maybe it doesn't matter? I've been known to overthink things lol.

I used the NEMA 6-15 cord caps that are rated for 15A and 240v. If your wanting 20A at 120v you will want the NEMA 5-20. That being said the existing cord caps you have will work fine because as you increase your voltage the amp draw will decrease. Hope that helps

@@HowitsdoneHandyman That does help a lot, thanks! I watched it again and did some side reading, all makes sense now. Pretty great feature to be able to switch between 110 and 220 so easily, although I doubt I'll switch back to 110 often. Thanks for the response and posting the video, cheers!

The size you need will vary depending on your saw, operating voltage, and the length of the cord. Look in your user manual to get specifics. I cover this at 0:15 in the video.

A word of caution , change the wall receptical as it is actually a 20A 120 volt model. In theory a person could inadvertently plug a 20A 120 volt tool into a receptical that is hot w/230 volts.

Respectfully, you are wrong, I would urge you again to look at 8:42 and you can see the outlet this will be plugged into. Model NEMA 6-20R for reference. There is no way to physically plug a 120v cord into this whether it be NEMA 5-15P or 5-20P.
