That's a sizeable Good Omens pin/cover minder! 3 tips that I've learnt from converting my own minders from pins. 1/ aim to get the magnet as centered as possible (i.e. sand down all the metal lumps and bumps as flat as possible!) because gravity will spin it upside down if you're off even by a bit. You'll feel it more if you cross stitch or diamond paint on a tilted surface rather than flat on the table. 2/ dampen a paper towel, fold it in half, and sandwich your pin in-between when cutting the sharp part, it'll save you a LOT of time in trying to find all the flying sharp pieces when you clean up. 3/ I got the smoothest backing by leaving the sandpaper on the table and holding/moving the minder back and forth while using get different grit paper and progressively grind it down. You don't need much, but I used a course, medium, then a fine grit. This last tip is more of an "extra" but I wanted a smooth finish, so I went the extra mile.

@@DiamondsandWashi my pleasure! I don't use pins as pins and had a bunch lying around but I craft a lot, so I gave making minders a try :) did some trial and error and if it helps someone else, why not :)

I've done these with old earrings, old pins, buttons and I love this idea. They give me so much pleasure using something I use to wear. I took a small clam shell from our beach and added a magnet to it and use it for my trash cover minder.. I love it.. I hold a thin rag over the cutters to catch those flying objects. I never use clips to hold the magnet down. Just remember don't keep the one's your doing close by or you'll have them attaching themselves and that's a mess without the E6000 dry. Love the pen choices.. So cool.

Thanks for keeping me company during my morning routine. I only have 2.5 squares left of Space for Reflection by Chuck Pinson. I really went pedal to the metal on it this weekend. Hopefully I'll finish it for the end of Drills and Chills just in time. 💙💙💙

Thanks for this. I have all these tools because I also build 12th scale dollhouses. I wasn't sure if taking the backs off of pins would work or not but I've seen some in Hobby Lobby on clearance that I would love to convert. I also wasn't sure which glue to use that I have on hand and you cleared that up as well. Guess I will be making me some cover minders or needle minders since I also cross stitch!!!

I have a small pile of pins I've amassed from various Loot Crates (not sure if anybody knows of/recalls those). I'm definitely gonna convert most of those to cover minders like this, so I can have my geeky fandoms with me while I diamond paint 😍

As a tip when using glues, like super glue, you might want to use a paper towel and wipe the area the cap goes, to get any glue that got into that area. Because I have used super glue for a project and had to get another glue because the first one had the cap glued on.

I picked up some pins recently, and planned to do this. Have you tried the kind of pin with a piece of metal on either side, with a thin pin that latches on? I am wondering if they can be snapped off as well.

I haven't tried that yet, but it's on my radar to try! I'm curious about that too!

buy a dremel. Its a little tool that will save you a ton of time for 10-20 bucks and make your magnets sit more level and have a better base to be glued on.
