You can put pipe insulation in the middle of a roll to keep from collapsing. From Add More Zest.

That's a good idea! In my case, I'm rolling the canvases tightly enough that it would have to be a pretty small bit of pipe insulation, but it all depends on the person and how they're storing, of course ☺️

If you need another storage idea: I used to work at an engineering company and the draftsmen would store the huge blue prints on a hanger and also lay them inside a dresser-type cabinet.

I would love to see a video where you just show all of your completed diamond paintings with information about what company it's from and what you liked or didn't like about the canvas after you started it. As a newbie to the craft, it would give me some great feedback about what project to start next after I finish my "hipster terrier" canvas.

Cool ideas. Interesting story, was visiting my mom last week in TX and we went to a Goodwill to look for a frame for the diamond painting I made for her. I was looking around then envisioned 50 years from now the walls and shelves being covered in completed diamond paintings. It was a real eye opener for sure and has made me really think about what I am doing and why. I, personally, do not work on anything I don't plan on hanging on my wall or giving away to someone., but that is me. I already have too many things stored away, collecting dust, and has no purpose other than my own reluctance to get rid of it. 🤪🤣

I just had an imagination that 100 years from now there are going to be so many they will be used for wallpaper or an insulation base. Some will be wrapped around a planter, tied and sealed so they keep the new shape…. Dipped in acrylic they can be made into tiles…

I think this video just confirmed I'm on the right track with my storage idea. Fortunately, I only have about 35 paintings total - 18 complete - but I still don't have the space to neatly store them all in their boxes. I just bought an underbed storage box and I've been trying to convince myself to go ahead and unbox them. LOL Besides protecting them, I don't know why I have such an attachment to the boxes. I'm going to give this a try!

When I finish a picture, I seal it with Elmer's clear glue and spread each area with a small sponge brush, which I wash with soap and water after so that I can use it for other paintings. I let the canvas dry flat for about 2 days before storing. I use an artists black, flat, zippered bag. Inside, I have a sheet of stiff white plastic or cardboard the size of the bag to keep it stiff so the pictures stay flat. This craft is so relaxing.

Absolutely LOVE your idea rolling them up with a label. So far I've rolled up two bunches (maybe 10 paintings or so) because I have less than 20 completions, and like you I'm selective about what I hang up on the wall and don't display most of my finishes. But this method saves a ton of storage space. Instead of clips I am trying very thin rubberbands to wrap around the bundle - right now two or three (one on each end and one in the middle if necessary) and they hold up very nicely. I was afraid to use clips but so far the rubberbands are working well!

So far I’ve only done 2 diamond art paintings I store them in a large sketch book that I bought at my local art store, estimated 50 pages. It fits 30 x 40 cm painting easily with room. I just tuck them in the book and store on top of an armoire in my craft room.

Thanks for sharing your storage options. I currently use the under bed storage and when I finish a canvas, I return it to the canvas plastic sleeve/ dust cover and add the sticker image to the outside of the bag. Makes it really easy to see what is inside.

Hi Katie as I was watching this a couple of "light bulbs" went off. Depending on where people live storing the paintings in a plastic tote & plastic bags might attract mould over time so here is my 1st suggestion. When buying footwear generally the box comes with a silca gel dessicant sachet to discourage moisture/mould. I keep 95% of my footwear in their original boxes and then when I throw a pair out I take the sachet out of the box and keep them in a kitchen drawer for future use. How long they stay effective for I do not know but I have used old ones many times over for different things. I have my long winter boots/summer sandals (my other 5%) in a totes like yours and I have put a couple of sachets in each one to prevent moisture affecting them. So my first suggestion is to put a sachet in your tote. I am sure you could probably buy some from somewhere if you do not have any or ask family/friends for their sachets as I am sure I am in the minority for storing my footwear like this. 2nd suggestion regarding the folder storage. I do jigsaws and I have a "Jumbo Porta Puzzle" folder and I thought this would be a perfect solution. I am always using items for things that they weren't intended, I think outside the square a lot! Basically it is the same as your A4 one but with a lot more rigidness. The idea is that while doing the jigsaw you can zip it up and the puzzle pieces will stay in place. The inside has a suede like fabric so that the pieces adhere to the suede and do not move and you can store it flat or upright. The only thing it doesn't have is the plastic sleeves. The outside measurement is approx. 32 1/4" x 21" (82 x 53 cms) excluding the handle so slightly smaller than your one. The inside measurement you could probably fit up to 30" x 20" (76 x 51 cms) paintings. It's a shame that it wouldn't fit a 31.5" x 23.5" (80 x 60 cms) as I know a lot of people go up to that size. And because the corners are rounded you lose a wee bit of internal space. On the inside, one side of the cover is flat whereas the other side is slightly more padded and does create a wee ridge which might create a wee crease in the canvas but as you do not cut off the border it should not affect the part where the diamonds are. Perhaps you know someone who has one of these to try before buying. Anyway that's my 2 cents worth all the way from Christchurch, New Zealand. 😊

I went to art school and have a painting folder. It's about A2 size and is by the brand Daler and Rowney. The folder is called Cachet. It's made of heavy cardboard and has a pocket type design that supports the paintings. You still need to use a large newspaper or plastic sheet to separate the canvases but it completely holds most paintings up to 30". I haven't been able to find their largest folder yet but it's a good option for those who don't have the space. It protects and supports them while not allowing it to fold or move while stored. Michaels carries them and so does Block.

I only have 4 completed diamond paintings, with 2 more in the pipeline. Currently, I hang the completed paintings in an undisturbed part of my closet on pant hangers. I am still on the fence with sealing them, especially if I want to consider your tote storage solution. I also like the smaller portfolio you have as well. Thanks for giving us some ideas! (I'm all about the process and will likely not display any of the paintings unless one is just spectacular.)

The portfolio works great for small/medium size paintings, but the large ones just are too heavy and cumbersome for the plastic sheets. I tried the huge artdot one which seemed to work great, but wow, it was big and had to be stored flat because even if you used tac or command strip to adhere canvas to plastic sleeve, it wouldn't always stay so then the DP would get all smooshed. The plastic sleeves also didn't stay put, they came loose from the binding. I actually store mine back in the box if its a DAC or DD or ones that have good sturdy boxes. For my large DP's from other companies when the box wasn't worth storing them in, or 3-4 kits came in one box, I still use the unstructured portfolio. I have foam board to provide structure, then use clips to clip the DP to a stiff (but still relatively thin) poster board material so that way the DP doesn't shift around much when I move the portfolio around. It also provides some additional protection to the diamonds by not having extra shifting around the corners and by having the poster board between the layers of DP's. Thanks for a great video, it was fun watching you flip pages and seeing some of your completed canvases!

I use the large art portfolio, but I also place diamond paintings in cardboard folders on the inside to give it structure (the only place I can store is upright). I use the trifold science project boards so that diamond paintings can't fall down.

I use the display books, both A2 size and A3 size, they do get heavy but I love storing both finished, and nonstarted canvas diamond painting, and I store the drills in a tub and store under the bed. This style of storage works well. I stopped buying canvas DP that don't fit in the folders. The cost of framing is really too expensive unless I plan on gifting to someone. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing, Katie! This is a great idea for storage. I do something similar to your under bed storage tote. Since most of my diamond paintings are huge, I roll them up, using the DAC sleeves (several per bag) and put them in wrapping paper holder bags. The tote with wheels would work better for those that move it around. Great ideas! Thank you for sharing!

I've came up with a solution that works for me. I don't want it to be permanent, but I hang them on skirt hangers and I'm lucky enough to have a little extra room in a spare closet to hang them. I mostly do them for enjoyment but I have a few I want to frame if I can come up with framing a big size, Like 22" X 28". Also I'd be afraid rolling them with diamonds in or out without sealing first . I know you've said you don't seal yours often and I want to know if sealing them does something to them. I seal most all of mind for fear of the drills coming off. Should I quit doing that? I love the information your videos provide. Thanks.

I am just a little bit confused. Why would someone put in all the hours to complete these lovely canvases to just store them in a garage or under the bed? If you don't have the room on your walls or at the very least, use a portfolio to display them- then why even do the painting? To me, if they're just stored in a garage or under a bed and taking up space, it just seems like a waste of time and money. I'm not being mean at all. It's a genuine question. I love your voice, btw. I purchased all 3 sizes of the ArtDot portfolios, assuming my storage problems would be solved. NO!!! As you mentioned, the two larger sizes are incredibly heavy when filled, they have a tendency to pull out of the binding requiring my poor husband to put it all together again (for the third time) and I cannot lift either of these sizes since they are so heavy and I am disabled. I do like the smallest size, but using that one on occasion will allow a painting or two to slide out and onto the floor. As you may know they are very pricey. Also, they have lovely handles so one could carry them that way. But two of them had their handles pulled out when we tried to do that. So all in all, I am not happy with those portfolios, and I think in general portfolios just aren't doing it for me. I really like your under-bed solution and I'm thinking I might give it a whirl, although it is killing me to have spent all that money on a portfolio situation that just isn't working for me. So glad you made this video. At least I know I'm not crazy. LOL.

I bought the A2 size Art Dot portfolio and I like it so far, my only regret at this point is that I didn’t get the A1 size. My fiancé had to trim one of my canvases down to get it to fit and I have two kits coming that will not fit so I have to figure out what I’m going to do I’d rather not buy the other size but I may have to. The portfolio you have looks nice but wowsers that’s pricey regardless of what’s meant to go into it. I presume the plastic inserts are archival grade which is great for posters and what not but obviously isn’t necessary for diamond paintings.

Obviously, the ultimate storage system would be a blueprint or map cabinet so they could remain flat. If you have floor space this could be feasible. There are craft room options that would do at smaller price point. However, if you are going to store large canvases it may be worth pricing out professional type cabinets. These kits are not cheap, it would be heartbreaking to discover the hundreds of dollars and hours of work to be ruined. Another potential solution is a hanging file meant for quilts or blueprints. They would hang from clips. Along that line, you could adapt hangers meant for linens/quilts/rugs in retail, and or skirt hangers for smaller canvases. I looked up blanket hangers and there are very affordable options and you can find the clips to use with them.

These are all wonderful ideas! Gosh, a set of professional cabinets to keep them all flat would be so nice. In my case, where I have 150 completed kits and am not slowing down, I do need something that's a bit more space efficient and practical. I'm imagining a closet full of 200 hung canvases, though 😆 It all depends on the crafter and what they have to store and what they're looking for! These are wonderful ideas, thank you for sharing!

My great-grandmother taught me embroidery at five, and my mother taught me to crochet at five also. Storage is a perpetual problem.

The beauty of the hanger solution is that you can hang double closet rods for smaller canvases and use regular skirt hangers for those. Then, for the large canvases, get the blanket hangers, which are longer and heavy duty, and the clamps that are made for quilts. You can even get the discs that retail stores use on rods to separate sizes and label them however you want.

The issue with the baroque portfolio is the same issue I’m dealing with the art dot a1 portfolio. If it’s full the sleeves fall out of the binding. Others are not having that issue…the company says to kindly try again after I emailed them and nicely stated the issue I’m dealing with. So no luck. I’m yet to find a solution. I’ll try the under bed totes.

I wanted a display book for my paintings, but I never rhought about the weight. I would also need a large one, but I'm not really sure where to look.

I have the ArtDot largest portfolio. It’s working right now but it’s extremely heavy and might be laid flat

Hi Katie. Thank you as always for providing so much varied content. You mention storing in your garage. I live in FL and am concerned about the integrity of the glue in a non climate controlled space. In CA I know you potentially have some of the same climate issues. Have you found heat to be problematic?

Hi there! Hmm, so far I haven't run into issues with the heat affecting either my completed kits or the ones still in boxes, and we do get into the triple digits in the summer. I'm still kind of concerned to see if there will be any issues long-term, and I'll be sure to mention if I run into anything!

I can’t find a diamond art portfolio that holds 23 by 35. Artdot A1. Won’t fit it. What do I do?

Thank you for the video. I don't have a lot of finished paintings, and I do like to display the ones I have completed, but for the larger ones or seasonal ones I might have to try the tote. Right now I'm using the plastic document tubes for uncompleted canvases and canvases that I'm currently working on. The tubes are adjustable so I've been able to fit all sizes in them. I can fit 5 uncompleted or 2-3 completed canvases in each tube. Sometimes I use a foam pipe insulation tube in the center to keep the canvas roll from collapsing. Anyway, thanks again and happy painting.

How do you know if you should seal your canvases?

If the glue isn't holding the drills well and they're coming off your canvas easily, you might want to seal it and that may help.

My binder clips rusted and there was not really an obvious heat/cool/environment reason for them to do so.

Can you explain how you are able to complete so very many kits in one year? I know you tallied it to 4 years worth, but I’m curious as to how you manage to get so many done so quickly. I know you have kids so it must be hard to get a lot of time. I assume you are doing more than one drill at a time but still your volume of paintings is amazing.

Hi there! There's a lot of factors that go into it, including that this is my main hobby and I do squeeze in a lot of time on it daily, but I also have some suggestions like multiplacing and making tool upgrades that help, as well! If you like, I actually did a video on tips for speedy diamond painting earlier last year, where I demo and cover a ideas: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5y1qo2Fa5egeZI I hope that helps!

@@DiamondsandWashi Thank you for your reply. I have a lot of anxiety about all of my unopened diamond paintings in the wings. I definitely have over 100. I live with my daughter and son in law and 4 grandkids 17 months up to 12 years old. I am responsible for them during the week because both parents work and I never have anytime to do anything for me until late evening. I just turned 70 and I know how old that sounds but honestly I sometimes think I’m a teenager, I guess it’s because i’m always around kids, sometimes strangers think I’m their mother. I tell you this so you can see time for me is limited. Thank you again for your reply. I will definitely check out your video for pointers! Linda

This is an issue for all dpers who keep their completed projects. I just ordered an under the bed solution that I think will allow the paintings to lie flat. I will keep you posted…

I don’t understand why you would store everything. Isn’t the purpose of doing these things to display your work? Do you give then as gifts or sell them when your done?
