Hi Paule, many thanks for your very helpful video. I’m only just starting to use DVR and use it in conjunction with Log images from my iPhone Pro 15 max. Your video is the only one I’ve seen on KZbin which has explained clearly why the CST node is placed at the end and the grading nodes are placed before it. This has always been a a big puzzle to me and I’m sure other ‘KZbinrs’ who post instruction videos don’t understand why. Also you very clearly explained the other methods of converting which have also been unclear. So VERY WELL DONE!!!!! Keep up the excellent teaching videos. Kevin (North Wales, UK)

Can I just say I’ve been learning to color grade for the last several months and your pacing AND explanation of the tools is wonderful. So many colorist on KZbin will only TELL you to do something… however you’re exposing the why on these tools and intricacies. Thank you .Subscribed.

So should you begin the stylistic color grade after applying the CST? Or should you do everything before and the CST always very last?
@pauleporterdp Жыл бұрын
I would do the CST as the last step since before you’re working in a much wider gamut

Is log the same as raw. I have a 700d and don’t think there’s a log option?
@pauleporterdp10 ай бұрын
No it’s not the same. ;)

@@pauleporterdp ok so if all I can film in is raw if there’s no log option what is the next best thing to log. As I say I have a 700d
@pauleporterdp10 ай бұрын
This camera can only shoot raw photo. Log is a specific gamma/ picture profile with more dynamic range.

I have a sony a6600 8 bit camera and slog 2/ s-gamut has some red spots. How fix Paule? I use CST. Best regards
@pauleporterdp2 жыл бұрын
The problem is the 8 bit Codec. 8 Bit is not really designed for log since there is too lass Color information for the log curve. That always leads to artefacts

great videos i need help on camera selection for stop motion - vfx i found options i could buy used: Ursa mini 4.6 1gen BMPCC 4/or 6k Sony FX-30 vfx Z cam e2 im gonna use it mostly indoor and for stopmotion/vfx/greenscreen work. im litterly lost, i know all 3 good but i know nothing about Vfx, i see the new sont fx30 is 14bit is that a better option post than the 12bit from the BMPCC 4k -6k or is the raw from bmpcc just better?
@pauleporterdp2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You clearly Focus too much on gear. The only thing you need to master for green screen is good lighting. I’ve done green screen work back with the c200 on the internal 8 Bit Codec and it worked out fine since I focused on good lighting. Sure more bit depth is very helpful but it doesn’t do miracles for you if you don’t understand the fundamentals of lighting for Green/ blue Screen. Seriously all of the mentioned cameras will work for that. Personally I would go with the 6k since it shoots ProRes which is much better as the file format Sony is using.

is there any way i can turn my rec 709 footage into log footage?
@pauleporterdp9 ай бұрын
You could with a colour space transform but it wouldn’t have an effect on your dynamic range and colour Space since you already recorded in a format with less dynamic range and smaller colour space. So it wouldn’t make any sense.
