Out of all your tutorials and tips you've released over the years, I think this one is quintessentially one of the top premiere selections. Like, bro, jammed packed with win-win solutions. For anyone that's commissioned to grade/look an entire body of work, even a corporate talking head sequence working smart as opposed to hard is the difference between getting more projects or never hearing from the last client again. When companies are looking at their yearly budgets, "good enough" is always going to rule over "take the time=money and make it perfect." One would be lucky to be in the latter position. Again, work smart, not hard. Working hard is for sappy fools who believe in the false promise of meritocracy. Don't be that fool. Embrace linear=photometric.

Printer lights have been around for a long time and its actually the best way to balance your footage. Temp/Tint is easier to quickly adjust compared to printer lights where you will need to nail down the the right mix with multiple factors. These are all tools you can use to balance....

Wow...I was just sitting in front of 850 shots to grade, freaking out about how slow I knew it would be, knowing full well the colors just get messy and tangled with my small adjustments. One of the problems with youtube is that people like to show off all their micro detailed skill. That just does not translate to the real world workflow. Thank you!!!!
@matthewhartman71765 сағат бұрын
Lol. The struggle is real. 😂 Do you remember the days when you were freaking out over grading a single shot? Truth be known, there are no magic buttons in Resolve. Not yet. Machine learning WILL get us there, but we're not there just yet. As a cinematographer/editor, there are far too many variables in camera and on shoot. Also, we use multicams that don't always match 1:1. Science only gets you in the door. There is always going to be a degree of intuitive personal touch involved in the process, at least on 404 of those 800 sum shots of yours. Nature of the beast, my man. You have to roll up your sleeves and burry your face into your monitor. It will always require some degree of brute force. It's normal. How strong is your coffee addiction? It's probably not strong enough for 800 sum shots. 😂 God, please tell me your rate is solid.

great video! and after I tried linear in many projects these months, I also find lift and gamma super powerful in that linear gamma, the lift behaviors just like the "black" in the QT look DNA, and the gamma behaviors like the undertone in it, which saves me sooo much time on shot matching, they're almost like the old fashion log wheels, but now they're even better that the log wheels, without any breaking.

Do all this that you mention on a linear node then the next Node convert everything back to Log and then apply my LUT or Film box on that? Most LUT's need to be fed a Log or Cine Log profile first ? Hi Qazi, as always, I admire all your content, always impeccable, always learning more and more from you! Thanks! I follow a super simple concept: ‘Knowing and not doing is the same as not knowing’ So with this incredible content you've made available, I study along with Davinci Resolve, applying each technique thoroughly. But I've just seen something and I'd like to inform you about part 13:13 - When you talk about contrast, we should use PIVOT 0.335 to protect and maintain the 18% grey level. But when I changed the GAMMA on the node to LINEAR, the behaviour changed. To get back to 18% grey, I had to set the PIVOT to 0.127 My conclusion was that within DaVinci Wide Gamut > Gamma Linear on the node we must adjust the Pivot value to 0.127 in order to remain at 18% grey. Could you please check if this information is correct? Thanks again for all your impeccable content!

If the last node in my workflow is a conversion LUT (log-709) and the lut has a subtle look in it, lets say a teal tint. when I balance am I just removing the teal tint? Do I need to use the CST nodes before and after this linear node for some reason if my project settings are DaVinci YRGB color managed / DWG intermediate with output at Rec.709-A? Watched your other video about CST and I was a bit unclear here if this linear switch for one node changes anything that I'm not aware of? Perhaps it's just because you're editing in a non-color managed project and therefore 2 CST nodes are essential? Thanks so much.

Thanks for the video, Qazi. Question: Does the Linear Gamma trick only work if your timeline is in DaVinci Wide Gamut / Intermediate? I have a Panasonic camera and I tend to like the outcome better if I keep the timeline in V-Gamut / V-LOG, and then put a Rec 709 LUT at the end. But if I do it that way, then using a node in Linear gamma to do Balance is kind of wonky.
