This information is GOLD. This has been my biggest problem for yrs. I must have a thousand different quilts to be made with my existing shelves, boxes, totes and piles of fabric because I never really learned how to do this this really basic math, as you pointed out. Thank you sooooo much for this information, I can’t wait to start doing all of my math. I always thought I needed to be some kind of mathematician and reading how to do math is just not something I can really grasp. Thank you again. Chris G

Great idea for a video, nobody's done this that I could find when I started quilting 3 yrs ago. I finally figured it out myself but for beginners it was so hard. I asked the pattern maker a few times and they helped me out.

Great video - all you need is a calculator! I'm currently working on a Trip Around the World pattern that was designed for jelly rolls, and I recalculated the fabric to use fat quarters instead. Along my quilting journey I've learned to recalculate fabric in this way and not just stick strictly to the printed fabric requirements. And it's so important to read the pattern completely, because sometimes there is a better way to cut the fabric. As you said, it provides you with so many more options.

Jessica - thanks! I do have scraps 😂 and I buy fat quarters because I love the fabric but by the time I receive the fabric I’ve forgotten what pattern I purchased it for, so then the fabric sits until I happen on another great pattern that the bundle will work with. Gives me more/better options. . .that and remembering to write in my planner the purpose I’m purchasing the fabric for in the first place. 😉😁. Thanks for another great video!

Jessica, I am a newbie to quilting. The Nona quilt is going to be my first one. Trying to learn as much as possible b4 making that first cut. All of your videos are very instructional, and this one on converting fabric was great. So many beautiful collections are available but I can see watching for fabric sales will be necessary Watching you and Donna Jordan have given me encouragement to try. Tks for being you.

Excellent video Jessica! You’re right - not something that is often explained. I’ve wanted to use scraps in several patterns but just don’t know where to start so I always go with the pattern requirements and never use my own scraps or precuts. I’m sure I will be referring to this video in the future when trying to use scrapes, precuts, etc. to make a quilt.

Great at what you do Jessica. More than an artist. As said many times, a great teacher. Meaning, you stay on topic, you organize your thoughts, you are articulate and speak clearly. You use good examples to reinforce your point. Thank you so much. Just wondering if you ever speak to guilds or teach at retreats. You are a natural.

I would love some guidance on how to enlarge a quilt pattern to fit a bed. I am stopping buying patterns that don’t already have all the calculations for the bigger quilts (bed quilts). Many patterns only have one size and it’s not usually for a bed. It’s frustrating to me and I end up over or under purchasing what I need.
@jessica_dayon Жыл бұрын
I'll make a note on that to do a video in the future.

Thank you so much for this explanation. I would also like to know the calculations for binding and backing. I know I can use an online calculator or just follow the pattern for this, but I like to understand it and know how to do it myself. Thank you!😊

Hi Jessica, great tutorial, probably a dumb question but if a pattern calls for fat quarters and you have yardage it would work the same? I’m math challenged for sure. 😢
@jessica_dayon Жыл бұрын
Hi, not a dumb question at all! Yes, it work the same way. 2 fat quarters=1/2 yard so I often keep that in mind when I'm going from fat quarters to yardage. Let me know if you have any other questions!
