Fine job, Brother! I recommend the Lyman Case Prep Express, only because it’s the only one I have. Thanks for the video!🤠🤠

I started out not annealing before sizing . When I checked them in a Lyman headspace gauge some needed resized . If you anneal before you size them , they will size much easier . Either way you should check them in a case gauge before loading them . ..... If you check the case prep stations have shot way up in price . Almost double in price . I would recommend the Hornady case prep duo as a cheaper way to go . The power chamfer and deburr saves time .

Can you change the tools on the case prep duo? Or they're always the same 2 forever? That might sway my decision a little if we can change them out

I also use the LEE quick trim dIE TO set that up and you just put the caliber specific die in the rock chucker and then use your 1/4” Impact with the cutter ( chamfer/deburr) from the top. Once you get it set up that’s pretty quick.

I found one of those little jigs that actually has a little detent ball on it with a spring, and it sits right on the case head groove in front of the rim and that one’s pretty handy I actually at the trim 300 blackout one of these days

Good video! I'll be building a 300 BO in the near future and making brass out of 223/556 will be important!

Thanks, brother! Just make sure to use that list of good and bad headstamps, otherwise you'll have to turn the necks down to the proper diameter to fit in the chamber once you have a bullet seated in it. Edit - a headspace/case gauge is also a great help when forming for the first time to ensure proper shoulder bump

I'm wondering if there's a certain length you can cut the cases to before resizing so that you don't have to trim them after. I highly recommend the Lyman case prep xpress. Frankford arsenal one has the trimmer on them too, but they're noisy as hell compared to the Lyman
@DummyRound
@DummyRound 3 жыл бұрын
And for the prep center, I'm leaning towards the Lyman with 5 stations, or the FA 4 station center without trimmer. We'll have to see what the budget allows. Thanks for the input 👊👍🇺🇸
@DisgustedGenXr

You have to leave room for resizing since cutting surfaces are never trued all the way around Trimming is part of “leveling” the case neck

good stuff my friend 👍,I probably dont need to but I send mine through a small base 223 die just because I'm using em in 2 different blackout chambers
@DummyRound
@DummyRound 3 жыл бұрын
It certainly isn't hurting anything. Do you use the SB die every time you size, or just initial forming?

@@DummyRound all, just because they are AR platform, I have dedicated some brass for my 223 single shot and size it very little not using small base either

Lyman case prep center and Lyman case trimmer :-))
@DummyRound
@DummyRound 3 жыл бұрын
I was definitely thinking about those, but ended up with the FA Case Prep Center. Only 4 stations, but I can trim, chamfer, debur, and ream the primer pocket, and be done. Fully prepped brass, only touched once to size, and once for the prep center. Into the tumbler and ready to rock after that. Thanks for watching 🇺🇸👊👍

Have you tried any brass that is on the "no go" list?
@DummyRound
@DummyRound 9 ай бұрын
On accident when they slip through the sorting or it's one of the weird Federal varieties that don't work. You can turn them down, but screw that 🤣
@scott3708
@scott3708 Жыл бұрын
The ball trimmer is not the same when trimming .223 vs 5.56 as the primer pocket depth internally is not the same between the two cases. 5.56 brass has a thicker base.
@DummyRound
@DummyRound Жыл бұрын
I think I understand what you're saying, but the length gauge isn't resting on the internal side of the case head when trimming - there is a guide rod that goes through the flash hole down to the shell holder and indexes off of that. I might be way off, hope that explains how it works 👍

So, your die is set up to have a bit of cam over at the top of the stroke and your expanding/decapping mandrel is installed properly? Make sure that is good, and then you can also size the piece of brass a second time after rotating 90 degrees, just to be sure it all got pushed back properly. The 300blk doesn't have much of a shoulder, but it might get a little more pronounced once fireformed to a chamber. Also, some headstamps won't work, as they are too thick where the new shoulder is formed. You can search for "300blk good/bad brass list" and there's a great post on the 300blktalk forum that does a good job explaining why and which ones work.

10:03 Dammit! I wish I'd have watched this sooner...never knew that cute little 2" blade could slice through the flesh of me fingies lol! No but seriously I really did cut myself...Twice! I was trying to remove the sawn off mouth out of the hole that the stupid safety lever goes into. All while the blade going. Apparently my fingers aren't as skinny as they used to be. I totally thought I could get away with it lol. Yeah I chopped that safety doo-hickey off after that lol! my dumbas shoulda done it sooner.

It can definitely bite you! I broke that safety lever off shortly after getting it. Hopefully I don't have to make any more 300blk brass for a long while.
